Seriously, snooze fest. I have higher hopes for the next game. Since the knockout round some of the games have been weird

My apologies it was 4 goals against the Sharks.

No, St Louis being a top point producer in the league the last number of years is an example of why I say St Louis carried this team in Stamkos' absence.

How can I not watch hockey if I knew about the game and talking hockey with you right now? You're reaching bud.

- SuperSchennBros

No, reaching would be saying St. Louis, who wasnt even on the team down the stretch, carried a team that had two of this years 3 Calder trophy finalists simply because he's been "a top point producer the last few years".

You couldn't make it any clearer you don't know what you're talking about with such statements.

St louis asked to be traded after Stamkos' return. They got Stamkos back down the stretch. Tampa was lucky to have St Louis until that time. What's so hard to understand about this? Do you really think Tampa could do this without both Stamkos and St Louis because they had two Calder Nominee that had zero chance of even winning the Calder??

Would they REALLY let Peter Mueller wear #88 if he came to play for Philly?

That would be just weird.

- johndewar

Agreed, I would be fine if they just retired the number honestly. That said, I'd welcome Mueller with open arms if he wore #88

If Giroux gets hurt, we barely have a capable #2 center let alone a strong 1/2 punch where the #2 can take over #1 duties for significant time. We also do not have a top line forward threat to put goals away. Like OV has Backstrom, Crosby and Malkin, Toews/ Kane, Perry/ Getzlaf, and Stamkos/ St. Louis. All power house contenders have some sort of 1/2 punch in their offense. In the flyers case, all McDonagh and Girardi had to do was bully Giroux and we were toast. No secondary offense.

The point is that the flyers seriously NEED B Schenn to step up as a true top line legitimate threat on offense or we will never be true contenders. And without Giroux we wouldn't even be a playoff team, we would be hoping for McDavid or Eichel next year.

They are under the 10% overage, so yes.

When the season starts they have two options to be compliant AND maximize Pronger's LTIR relief.

Option 1. Demote/waive/trade enough guys to get under $69mm including Pronger's contract, place him on LTIR after camp and they get the $4.91mm in relief to recall/reacquire players.

Option 2. Go balls deep and start the season $4.91mm over the cap, and then subtract guys to free room.

If they are over the cap when the season starts, the amount they are over is the maximum extent they can utilize out of Pronger's LTIR exemption. So if they are over $69mm, they should go way over. Because if they are $1.2mm over, they can only use $1.2mm of Pronger's exemption.

So right now we are technically cap compliant, but in a very bad situation as we would get VERY little support from Pronger's LTIR.

Yes, but it is fairly easy to solve-recalling Laughton & Morin would pretty much get them near the $4.91mm...I'd have to double check the math, but capgeek had them around $3mm over the $69mm cap last I looked.

It's a sticky situation, not really "bad".

I thought we were only 1.2mil over the cap ceiling? Meaning that if we waived Rosehill/ Rinaldo we would be under the cap, but if someone claimed one of them off of waivers we would be screwed because we would still be over the ceiling.

Edit: I forgot about Emery/ Akeson. We are 3mil over the cap and CapGeek doesn't have the numbers on Bellemare either.

If Morin is called up you just know Tim's going to have an article about how great it is to rush the kid and he is ready, blah blah blah... Just to be sent down the next day

There are still deals that could be made because GMs can soften their stance, but I do think that it is really likely that Vinny is a Flyer this year.

That's fine; just have to make the best of it. Maybe a defenseman gets moved for wiggle room, if Hextall decides they need it

Yep. They can also call up Bellemare or one of the several vets they recently signed to two way deals just to get to the $4.91mm over, then send them back to the AHL and have the full on LTIR exemption for Pronger.

Do you live in Dublin Ireland? No wonder we are both up too early. Is there ice hockey there?

The deadline idea is interesting because it could be that we don't want to sell at that point if we are in a run for the playoffs and he is playing well. Guess we'll see. Either way dumping him at the proposed price is ludicrous.

I still think he gets traded. Whatever his shortcomings are, he can still score goals. He had twenty last year in a nightmare season. If the Flyers weren't such a mediocre 5 on 5 team, I'd have zero issue keeping him and figuring out a way to fit him in.

Other teams will still need production

If someone claimed Rosehill or Rinaldo, they would not be screwed. They wouold be removed from the Flyers Cap just as if they had cleared and were demoted.

Capgeek is a guess on what the roster might be for the season. The numbers are not exact because it is impossible to do so in the off season.

So when we sign guys like Bellemare technically they start out of the Phantoms and don't have to clear waivers or anything? I thought he received a one way deal so wouldn't that put him on the Flyers right away?

If it did, it would mean that the flyers have 22 contracts and 1.3mil in space left to reach the 4.9mil and only have one contract available to be called up.
