i guarantee you have never watched this guy play but you've already made up your mind about him

you must be one of those types who only trust when a player does well for another team for so many years.. then comes to toronto in his twilight years and disappoints

sorta like how the leafs have ALWAYS done things? you want more of the same of that?

not me.

- Dozzer

i have never watched him or heard of him. I stated that. I have had the NHL package for 6+ years so i watch a ton of other teams; but my reason for saying he's a bust (most likely) is because of how many guys like him came in and actually made a difference. For that reason i am saying polak and robidas are solid but so were komisarek and beachmin remember?

Also, if you read, i agreed with this low risk move even if he is a bust over signing legwand.

no he's most likely a bust in the mold of rikard wallin, etc. As in, plays in the KHL for a reason.
- clark_griswold

Slight difference though, he was never let go over here, he bolted. Wallin was let go his first time through. I'm just comparing how he did compared with former and current NHLers on his team. Seemed to do ok. Also looked solid at the Olympics. It can go either way with him, nothing to lose really. I just hope that if it's not working after 25 games we cut our losses as opposed to dragging it out a whole season like we did with Wallin.

The player is believed to have paid in the neighbourhood of $600,000 from his own pocket to terminate the contract with Chelyabinsk and pursue a move to North America.

what was the brother's name? sergei? and which one (or was it both) who fought grabo?
- clark_griswold

Yup, Sergei. I remember that well. The Habs had all three, but the Kotstitsyns were getting time with the big club ahead of him. He said in a Belorussian newspaper that he was better, and the Habs were idiots for playing them ahead of him. They got in a huge feud, and he was eventually traded for a second round pick.

The funny part is, he was right. He IS better than both of them. Habs fans called him a whiny little female dog that needed to put his time in, but it was true, he was the best of the three of them.

It was a big thing in Belarus. There was talk of them refusing to play on the Olympic team together, and it's not like they've got top players to spare.

seems there's only about 3 of us on here saying we're worse than last year; won't be hard to remember which ones (me included)
- clark_griswold

Sign me up!

I think we're bringing a lot of inexperienced players at the forward group.

Going to be a lot of mistakes made with this group.

never liked raymond, but at least he had a role. Either way, you seem to think we're great, i think we're horrible. Would love to bet you and i would bet big. Hey i hope we win the cup, i'm just wondering how a 22nd place team got better (When we didn't) and most teams below us DID get better.

Im fine with the lottery pick, good draft coming up.

- clark_griswold

I don't think we're great, I think we'll be fighting for a playoff spot, not guaranteed a bottom-5 pick.

My main issue with what you're saying is that a) this team was 3rd in the east prior to losing their starting goalie, b)it's still very early in the offseason, and there's going to be more movement in the roster, c) outside of Gunnar*, not one of the players we lost played, d) every player we've brought in addresses some of the most glaring issues this team had last season.

*and he was awful in his role.

And what teams really got better?

Buffalo? They added Gionta, Gorges and 38 more games of Moulson. They lost Miller, Ott, and Ehrhoff.\
New York Islanders? Added Grabo and Kulemin, lost Vanek and MacDonald
Florida looks better, sure
Carolina?

Some teams ahead of us got worse, too... Ottawa, Philly, even Pittsburgh- think swapping Ehrhoff for Niskanen and Orpik improves their d?

Well they aren't done yet so it will be impossible to tell. As of right now, I do not believe we are better.

not talking about you. We can disagree with mature comments and no which to me is a complete joke.

I know you said he's probably a bust too; but better than a $3-4 million bust in legwand.
