They would have lost him on waivers because he wasn't good enough to stick.
Assuming Clarkson is in the top-6 this year, and Holland is re-signed, our bottom-6 currently looks something like this:
Frattin-Holland-Komarov
???-???-Orr
Options for the vacant spots are Leivo, Ashton, Broll, Devane, Carrick, and the new guy.
Still don't see any room for Colbourne. - Feeling Glucky?
Could have used him last year, who goes with only 4 centres knowing Bolland is quite often injured? It was mis-management. |

Colborne getting traded had nothing to do with Orr/FML. They could have kept all three. They got rid of Colborne for nothing because he was useless to the Leafs. At the time, he was so far down the depth chart at C (even with the centres the Leafs had), that he never looked like he was going to get a lick of ice. He was maybe 6th or 7th. Whether you want enforcers on the team or not, they were not competing for the same roster spots. In the long run, would it have been good to keep Colborne in the AHL for the season, as it may have helped when they had their top 3 centres out at the same time? Sure. But Colborne getting dumped had nothing to do with Orr and FML. Zero. I can assure you, Nonis was not sitting there thinking, do we want to keep Colborne? Or Orr? Which one will be keeping as a depth C..... - prock
I really, really, really wanted Colborne to work out.
Sadly, he showed absolutely nothing.
On paper, the guy should be a valuable contributor to an NHL team.
On the ice, he doesn't have what it takes. |

wrong again. He was traded because they would have lost him on waivers.
I'm not a fan of Joe at all but he also won a ton of shoot out games for Calgary. They benefited enormously from OT/SO wins.
Joe would be better than the options the Leafs have right now in the bottom 6. - Iggysbff
He's useless. A waste of a roster spot. Maybe one day he works out, but at his age, and what he's shown at the NHL level (or lack of what he's shown), I doubt it. Too slow, too soft, can't win a draw. He seemed to have one decent AHL season, but that's about it.

current group has to go.. of course i want them to win.. i just dont think they will - Dozzer
I don't think that's the answer either, but I don't have a good retort. It'll be an interesting season. |

No room for a 6' 5" Center that put up 28 points on an awful Flames team?
Plus scored 44% on the shootout?
Gotcha. |

dropped by 2 points from the high until Bernier gets injured... and then drops 7 points.

Yes. Exactly. He got 28 points on the Flames because he got a chance he wouldn't get here.
He's big, but soft as butter, and not exactly a fast mover. He'd be lost on the 4th line, and would be lucky to put up 10. |

He's not a banger but uses his body to protect the puck pretty well. |

I was hopeful as a reclamation project when they got him too. He played well in the AHL for a while. He’s got some skills. But too slow, too soft, too easy to push off the puck, can’t take a draw, not very reliable defensively. I don’t know what it is, but he just sucks. If I had to do it again, knowing that Kadri, Bozak, and Bolland would all be out simultaneously, I’d STILL dump Coborne and pick up Holland. And it’s not like Holland has shown he can hack it either. But a little younger, and has still shown more than Colborne did. |

Got a selfie with Julian from trailer park boys, got to watch Lehey come to my campsite and act out an entire skit with my good friend doing his amazing Bubbles impression. had lots of beer, met lots of great people, ate the best asiago dip of my life and just had an all around whopper of a time
That's the cliff notes version |

Do you see any hypocrisy in yapping about lack of wins in regulation, then following it up by talking about a guys shootout skills? |
