As much as Gorges was a good "team guy". He was vastly overpaid. Yes he blocked shots a plenty. But his game with the puck is below NHL standards. I mean how times would he get the puck back at the point and consistently just dump it in the corner. He was also not very good at making a first pass either.

Not a very big guy, he had trouble clearing the net.

He does have character. However guys with "character" are all over the NHL. He was simply getting paid way too much for what he brought to the table imo.

That move was mostly made to make some room for Tinordi and Beaulieu. Yes the cap was high for a player with limited skills but G(e)orges would still be part of the lineup if Tinordi and Beaulieu were RH or not part of the club.
