Playing on his natural side will help
- WaterBoy

Not being mid-recovery might help as well.

I love Gorges (Buffalove ) but we needed the cap space and the spot on his side (whatever side that is)

replaced by gilbert, parenteau and malhotra. we're a poopload better.

- rob121

If you look at it in terms of the way it all boils down on paper, they're definitely better, not a poop load, but better.

Briere was playing 4th line centre, not exactly a great fit for him. Malhotra is a significant upgrade for that specific role.

Gilbert allows Emelin to go back to the left side, where hopefully he's consistent. A consistent Emelin would bump Gorges down to 3rd pair, wherein you can't afford to be paying someone 4mil, and more importantly the spot needed to be opened up for one of the 3 young guys ready to step in.

Parenteau on top of it is just an added winger, who can be counted on to score.

Yes, I assumed that. But you see, we didn't actually attend his class - only you did.

plus Emelin can't be worse than he was last year. I don't expect any regression from the team even if we have 2 rookie dmen in the starting lineup
- muffin_man

Gilbert (frank)ing sucks!
If he has to play 20 minutes a night Asp will be stalking the Bell Center with a broken wine bottle by Christmas.

Worst case scenario, Gilbert plays himself out of a spot on the right side and Pateryn gets called up. Who, based on the play of all 3 last year, should probably be getting a shot before either Tinordi or Beaulieu, but I don't think it will happen.

I fairness the likelihood that anyone knew Santoreli was either a hockey player or a teacher were equal.

Also, Gilbert is a better option on the second powerplay wave. Not the ideal one, but he can move the puck, and he is way better than Gorges in that aspect.

Everyone keeps mentioning that. Which is fine, I must be missing the big picture. So where does the 15.1 mil go to?
If Habs don't spend to within 1.1mil of the cap ceiling, the "we needed cap space" is not relevant?

I'm not trying to start an argument, just wanting to know where the 15.1 mil will go to. I just don't see it.

Oh I agree.

BTW...that does not make Gilbert into a good D man all of a sudden.

1.1 = how much for a rental at the deadline if it looks like we are in solid position to make waves in the playoffs again?

edit: ok, the again might be a little much, but you get the idea.

OK, so there's 3.6 left
Waive Budaj, enter Tok, there's 4.5 mil.

At the deadline, that's enough to acquire a player worth north of 8mil....
