My opinion if you can't get a team to take 100% of Vinny's salary you keep him, put him in the best possible situation to succeed

You shoulda seen Panotch's comments from yesterday's blog. Runaway train and this had nothing compared to that.

Just spitballing here, but I want to bring back the Coburn to Edmonton rumors after analyzing Edmontons free agent signings.

Edmonton is now paying T Hall, Pouliot, and Perron 13.8 million/year on the left wing. They have a glaring hole at second line center.

If they miss on Legwand, whom their rumored to be in on. Would anyone be interested in a deal shaping up like this

To Edm- Coburn, Lecavalier
To Phi- Petry, Perron

There is upside and downside here of course, we would be weakened a bit on the blue line. However we are getting younger, cheaper, and more flexible. Petry is a RFA right now. I would think he is line to make anywhere from 3-4 mil. Perron is def a major upgrade to our forward core and a far better fit on the top line than any in house candidate. Edm gets a 2C and the rangy Dman to play in the West that they covet. Thoughts?

Vinny's NMC will hurt. I'd rather not downgrade the blue line just to lose Vinny, even if the addition of Perron improves the offense.

You know what, as long as he is healthy, and he doesn't have a chronic back issue, good chance he'll bounce back and have a good year. I think his attitude is that they'll have no choice but to play him in a good spot. And he'll do that with his play. I personally believe that what we saw in the beginning of the year is the real player. And really if he is here on the team, the Flyers would be foolish not to put him in the best place to succeed. That's what's best for all parties involved.

20 goals/37 points in 69 games and he played most of it hurt and on the 4th line with Rinaldo and Hall. If I am in a Fantasy league next year, I'm picking Vinnie as a late round sleeper. With being tossed around like some kind of diease nobody wants a part of, he is going to be making a point next year. I hope they keep him. Because he is a pro, and all this Crap is just gonna be motivation for him.

When the Millennium Falcon shows up and he tells her, "If this relationship is going to work out between us I need to feel free to party with a bunch of strangers whenever I feel like it." I was rolling on the floor.

Spaceship guy was great, too. But Batman killed me

If he's that good still, then answer me these two questions:

1. Why are the Flyers trying so hard to trade him?

2. Why are other teams avoiding him like the plague unless the Flyers eat significant cash?

Teams are dropping $5.5mm on Dave Bolland and Olli Jokinen when they could probably have Vinny for less money by giving up a draft pick.

There's no arguing that Vinny can still provide offense, if healthy and used properly. But his two way game has declined and he's not a great skater. If he does stay, which is very possible, the Flyers need to use him better than they did last year.

Just have to be patient with VL. There are worse things than having another 20 goal scorer on your roster. I;m on board with everything to date in the Hexy era.

Teams drop money on Bolland and Orpik because it's FA day and everyone has stars in their eyes and make bad decisions. Believe me, if Vinnie was bought out, SOMEBODY would sign him thinking they were getting a great deal. Maybe not as long a contract, but probably around the same number.

But yeah we need to use him better. I think Homer was thinking, Verteran presence could come in and help the kids develop. Not that we'd have to try to hide Vinnie's shortcomings. We need to build a line around him for him to be effective.

I know it's Edm but Petry was their de facto #1 last year. RH Dman with some length would be good for the pairings. Its tough to swallow but I think I'd do it with the added flexibility all around

Probably because the other GMs are so used to the Flyer GMs caving so easily. Patience.
