the flyers should trade vinny+ grossman+ prospects cousins, straka and a first round pick and a third round pick to the jets for evander kane and bogosian. then trade the schenn brothers to colo for ryan o reilly and steit to the red wings for a draft pick. then sign del zotto. that gives them kane , giroux, voracek 1st line. 2nd line of o reilly simmonds and raffl. 3rd line (shutdown line) umberger coots, and read. 4th line laughton ackeson and maybe they can add steve ott to round out the line. coburn timmonen macdonald bogosian shultz and del zotto. then next year bobby ryan will be joining the flyers. we will still need to replace timmonen and shultz with a couple of really good d-men. how do you like my flyers team?

The best one was the first one.

Grossman, Vinny, Cousins, Straka, and a 1st for Kane and Bogo

Thoughts on possibly signing Del Zotto?

Man that McDonald contract looks worse by the day.

- stveshdy

MacDonald contract looks much better. Some of the deals have been awful. The Ehrhoff deal was so he could go for a title. Flyers had zero shot.

Just to summarize:

Step 1: Hextall trades Grossman, Vinny, Straka, Cousins, and a 1st for Kane and Bogo
Step 2: Schenn and Schenn to Col for RoR
Step 3: Streit to Detroit for "a pick" (this guy probably thinks it'll be a 1st coming back)
Step 4: Sign MDZ
Step 5: Sign Ott***
Step 6: Wait for Bobby Ryan to just ignore everything except the Flyers next year during FA, because I mean let's face it he's an automatic Flyer

There ya have it folks

I agree to a point.

I think there will be some benefit for Berube to have a full training camp. I think we're looking for improvement from BSchenn, Courturier, and yes, even LSchenn a little bit.

Having our boy Jason Akeson around will give the team a different look, offensively.

There'll be fewer penalties to kill (*looks at #HartnellDown t-shirt*) and we have an extra guy (Umberger) who can work the PK.

They might not be as bad you think, but I don't they are contenders in the East or anything.

- johndewar

You know what? I can't disagree. You're right, this team might surprise me.

The Philadelphia Flyers had Seven 20 goal scorers last season. So I can understand the mindset of dividing one of these scorers to add to a position of need. We saw this when Joffery Lupul was moved as a key piece that originally brought Chris Pronger here after a season where we had six 20 goal scorer.

My concerns for the Flyers now and this offseason as a whole is this.

I want a team that's not heavily relied on Claude Giroux. If Claude Giroux were to have a Steven Stamkos like injury this season, this team is unlikely to make the playoffs. When we traded away Scott Hartnell, we took away from the Power Play, the offense, the top line and most importantly we took away from Claude Giroux. It's clear that Giroux doesn't need Hartnell to be successful. It's even more clear that Hartnell isn't the ideal winger for Giroux to play with but it's become evident that Giroux is going to need a front line player to play with...and maybe even without.

Now, I never said that the Flyers couldn't score without Scott Hartnell or Vincent LeCavalier but it does become that much difficult to do so should the club remove LeCavalier next. Seven 20 goal scorers now becomes five. Believe it or not, this is a pretty big step back. I'm fine with Vinny going next but I think Giroux and this team as a whole needs more then Jake Voracek, Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn to step into roles that they might not be ready for. All three players are very good players but none of the three may be capable of carry a team consistently when our Captain cannot.

Maybe there are some who differ with me about how this offseason is going. That's fine. However, what I've heard from our new GM is the club needs cap flexibility for the upcoming season. Instead he's come up with cap flexibility for three seasons from now and somehow this excites people. Erik Gustafsson in my opinion was so frustrated with his role on this team, he jumped ship over seas and we've replaced him with Nick Schultz? To me this isn't a positive sign.

Now I'm not placing all the blame on Ron Hextall, nor am I asking him to be fired before we see the final result. I'm keeping an open mind while knowing Gustasson left around the same time we switched GM's. I thought the draft was successful. I thought the signings of Kimmo Timonen, Ray Emery and Brayden Schenn were handled very reasonably. At this point though, I'm still crossing my fingers that there are still more moves to come.

Hartnell might not be worth the last 3 years of his deal when that time comes but I don't think Umburger is worth the last three years of his deal right now.

we had 3 good dmen, and he was the best by virtue of being in better physical condition and his skating ability. the bottom 3 shouldn't have been out there at all. honestly i had better dmen than those guys by a mile on my own local team back east, but i couldn't get them to commit to the experience for several reasons.

so yes is the answer, but he would get into trouble by trying to do much sometimes. it's the nature of the beast when you feel like on your own. i'm guilty of that.

for example, my team last night...several unforced turnovers out of both corners and behind the net led to some point blank, bar down chances, some went in. some didn't. after awhile, i start to take matters into my own hands because i can't count on them to make a simple play, nor can i count on proper support in front of the net after they (frank) up. yet, i look like the bumhole.

Zach Bogosian is still only 23 and yet has 6 seasons under his belt but hasn't been all that impressive since 2010. I can't help but wonder what happened outside being being rushed into the NHL on a not so great team. Bogosian like Tyler Myers (In my opinion) just might need a change of scenery. Even Erik Johnson was pretty good last season after having a strong start to his career with high expectation but then falling off dramatically. In Johnson's case, I think he's back thanks to really good coaching by Patrick Roy. I'm hoping Hextall is nothing but kicking tires, after all, the Flyers look to have revived Steve Mason's career simply by acquiring him.

Depending on the cost, I would have no problem with the Flyers being the beneficiary of all that development time, and reap the benefits of a maturing player.
