I agree, but last year Reinhart, Pokka, Czuchman and Mayfield were not in the mix. Sure Phaneuf is an option but the seven million makes him a Luongo contract problem. I'm surprised that Komisarek, Klesla and Volchenkov are all only thirty two years old. I don't think they are all washed up but rather their agents are all working for the higher offers. These are the guys who don't get the look and big offers during the July one surge.

Unlike last year they did make a big signing by effectively adding two thirds of a new second line which will impact the forward defensive play. The young defensemen mentioned above plus De Haan all need playing time and yes our defense will not be ideal from the start, especially in light of Viz's health.

When the isles qualify Dehaan and Donovan they will have 8 dmen on one way deals. That doesn't even include Czuczman. Where does Reinhart, mayfield or pokka fit in with 9 dmen?

???

The second most talented player we have can just.. go? But the other rookies.. the replaceable ones.. dont touch them??

Don't expect to see Strome on the Isles this season. He is the best asset for real commodity in this market. Expect him and a Grabner or Frans to be deal together for a real Defensemen. And do t throw back at me - "we will give them Bailey" - because he has little value at 3 million plus and 2 more seasons.

This is the problem. Donovan is not a PP guy, And Fransy is a forward who shouldn't be playing the point. The isles have yet to replace Streit, and it's been burning them. Special teams wins hockey games.
Snow needs to address this
, otherwise don't expect anything other than an 8th seed/first round exit.

No argument, But Donovan can be a very good PP pointman.

Fransy yes shouldn't play the point, but he can if needed.

I would like to see someone brought in as well... if its a UFA you got.. Whitney, Del Zotto, Pitkanen... Del Zotto is the most intriguing of the bunch, but his play in his own end leaves a lot to be desired... If we could pair him with a player that covers DelZotto when he gets caught pinching.. that would work.. i just dont think we have THAT player.

The ONLY way Strome isn't on the Islanders this season is if he's in Bridgeport leading them to a Calder cup.

Strome isn't going anywhere.

If you are depending on any of the players you mentioned in the first sentence having a serious enough impact on our blue line next year I'll tell you that's a bet I wouldn't take. Can it happen? Sure, but I wouldn't say a couple players that played some games in the NHL and a couple that have never seen NHL ice are going to save our blue line. I'd rather give them some time to develop and see if they can contribute before forcing them into a real important role.

Yha Josh has really awesome hands and vision, I also believe he will thrive on a new team, new coach, new expectations. If its never going to happen on the Island... They might as well use him in a package deal.

Anyone hear Snow on WFAN today? What did he say?

I just listened to snow on WFAN. He made sense as to why he made the vanek trade. Basically saying he'd never be able to sign him if he cold called him July 1st. He knew he wasn't going to re sigh moulson, so he did the trade in the hopes vanek woulda signed from being around the guys and seeing Long Island. Unfortunately, like Ryan Smyth it wasn't enough. He DID NOT do enough to convince these guys to stay. I ge why he did what he did, but he failed and it didt work. For that he should be relieved.

In snows interview he said they weren't going to trade for a top dman, cause the price would be too steep. He's literally gonna go with the guys he has.

you take everything he says at face value, dont you???

did you really expect him to give away his entire offseason gameplan??

Kumelin and grabovski signed here for two reasons. First, they got "overpaid" and were promised they'd play together. I have no problem whatsoever with that. This is what you need to do to bring in people.

I don't listen to what Garth spews because its all BS. The bottom line is people don't wanna sign here because the isles as an organization are perrenial losers. The "committee" is the major problem. The reason why snows job is never in question is because all decisions have wangs input/approval. Therefor you can't hold Garth accountable when the decision making is every bit Charles as it is Garth.

I'm sick of hearing about the coliseum and the Marriott. Those excuses are about as old as the urinals at the coliseum.

wake up bro...besides for players like boyle who have 1 or 2 years left, no one is making that excuse anymore!!!

Happy 4th everyone.
Now here's to anyone but JT or the rookies (except Strome, he can go) getting traded for a top 2 Defensemen.

That's not funny. Over 250 ledges are injured every year when people jump from them.
