Agreed, but the size of strome is what I'm on the fence about. I know there are small forwards who excel but I'd rather a bull like Nelson.
- kindlyrick

Strome is taller than.

JT, Crosby, Kessel, Stepan, Kane, Duchene, ROR.

I briefly heard this morning on the NHL network about Kane doing something stupid on instagram or something like that. It was mentioned that the organization wasn't to thrilled by his action and other prior actions. Sorry, but bc he's not an islander I really didn't pay much attention to the story.

The kid has an EGO bigger than MT. Rushmore but is super talented and just a tad immature right now, but I've always liked him and will take him any day of the week....

I heard stuff about Giroux this morning, but nothing about Kane

Do you think you are fooling Winnipeg ?? You gotta give to get. I noticed you didt have Reinhardt in your list.....you think you're gonna get bogosian for mayfield?

To land a top line winger (Kane) and a top pair PP dman who's young in bogosian, Winnipeg is going to ask for names like strome, Reinhardt, etc. you're not fooling them with Bailey, Donovan and say sundstrom

- kindlyrick

Straight up no, I never said that. I said we can make a package.

Donovan has actual value unlike Bailey as well.

I just read it. Someone suggested at the draft that Philly trade for him and he liked it on twitter. I also read he asked for a trade and the Gm wouldn't deny it. Smart move. Doesn't wanna lose too much leverage.

And Orpik and Niskanen. The guys a tool.
- PeteM

In fairness, I'll admit I liked the Niskanen contract only bc he's 27 yrs old making $5.75M when the cap continues to go up every year and he seems to have improved his game every year. So by time that contract is almost over he'll be 34yrs old which isn't bad for a $5M player

Orpik's was just BAD bc of his age 33yrs old and lost a step last year..

Don't need another forward, use your assets to get a dman and you are good to go. You could have grabovski play with JT and KO. Lots of options now

Donovan is gonna be a solid 5th dman.

I had to step away yesterday. The dramatics here were overboard. Day one of free agency and people were diving off bridges. Add Halak to the mix and our offseason has been damn good thus far. Still need a dman but plenty of time to work that out.
- keaner17

These are both excellent signings. Nothing was given up to acquire these two and it makes our depth good enough to trade another forward. Also, important to me and I'm guessing a lot of other Islander fans these are two forwards that play on both sides of the puck. Who gives a shat if Snow over payed? We all realized that's what had to be done. Maybe this will help make us a little more appealing in a trade for a D man? No, they aren't 100 pt guys but both of them are players that have the potential to help this team a great deal. Now all Snow needs to do is fire Capuano and get a veteran top 4 defenseman and we will all have something to really look forward to next season.

I didn't say size is everything. But lets not get ahead of ourselves because strome is a top 5 pick. I for one would never use his name in the same sentence with any of the above mentioned. You just equated strome to some of the top n American forwards in the NHL.

Agreed. Gives us more depth up front to ease the kids into a bigger role. I'm a fan of both Grabs and Frans. I unfortunately see one or both going. Two former Leafs. I see a present one possibly heading our way.

Niskanen lucked out in that he had his one good season in a weak free agent year.

Strome has the potential to be a lot IMO. I'm not saying that because he was a top five pick I'm saying it because he surprised me last year. He has a pretty well rounded game that i was completely unaware of.

also, even with these two overpayments, we're 22nd in the league in cap hit. We have 14 mil in room to sign 3 rfa's and we have too many players on one way contracts. we're going to move players out and still have absolutely tons of cap space

I've watched and liked Niskanen since Dallas, was extremely pissed when PITT stole him & Neal for Goligoski.

Just keep in mind that for some, it takes longer for D to develop and I have watch Niskanen improve slowly every year, so now could be his time bc he's only 27.

I got all excited last year after the Vanek trade. I'm trying to cool my expectations till I see a D man signed or traded for. Once that happens I'll be pumped but these are two good signings.

Seven years of this rebuild and you have learned nothing? Every move made is to help our core. This team has no intention on trading Strome.

I know nobody wants to, but they are gonna have to give up at least one top young prospect to get this top 4 dman they want.

trade chips - nielson, bailey, grabner

draft picks

keep the rest of the kids until we know what we have

- Isles_since_6

I agree. Should be enough to bring back a solid top 4 dman.

I would think snow will move bailey, nielson, maybe grabner. whether that's enough to get a top 4 dman under contract with term remaining...I'm not sure.
