I think this says a lot about the management.... I am fine with all the tanking talk... its the reality we live in.
fans are ready to slit their wrists with another collapse - senstroll
This team looks paper-thin and we all agree that Carlyle's system is setting them up for failure. For this team to really take a step forward and make the playoffs I think that the young players like Kadri, Gardiner, Rielly and Bernier need to take the next step in their development.
So either that happens and things look optimistic or they fall on their asses and we're looking at RC getting canned and a lottery pick.

I'd like to see the Leafs take a flier on Keaton Ellerby. Guy is a monster, only 25 and has had pretty decent stats in the past 3 years.
He's no more than a bottom pair LD or 7th, but he could be had for a one year at ~700k easy. |

that 3rd line is awful, and to say 'the new guy', or legwand...not any more promising. I think you are more hopeful than i am pessimistic. Alot more has to go right for us to make the playoffs than has to go wrong for us to miss. - clark_griswold
again, with a poop ton going wrong last year, this was a playoff team until the goalie went down.
3rd place in the east.
And they've improved on their biggest weaknesses from last season.(on paper, anyways)
I haven't made any predictions. I definitely don't expect them be 3rd place in the east, didn't expect that last season. I expect the same i expected last season: fighting for a playoff spot.
You see them as a guaranteed bottom-5 team.

I think what you fail to understand from what others are telling you, is the Leafs multiple collapses over the last few years seem to become a recurring theme.
Be it because of injuries or flat out chocking. |

You are wrong. Playoff teams do not continually give up 40-50 shots per game. If it happens, they immediately correct the problem. We did it nightly.
Timely goal scoring and outstanding goaltending for most of the season masked some glaring deficiencies. The Leafs were a TERRIBLE team defensively. I'd say within the bottom 3 in the NHL. |

If none of the kids are ready to win a spot at camp then guys like this will probably be available in September. I think you're probably right though - they'll grab a veteran to fill in the 7/8 role. |

Good thing they addressed the defensive problems. Both on offense and defense IMO. |

So that pizza reference is irrelevant and this one is? Are you (frank)ed kid?
Is that what happened to you? Sorry to hear.
It is that simple. Reimer got his chance, and blew it, terribly. Let in soft goals. So what the D sucked, and yeah they didn't play their part, but neither did Reimer. - MCharisma91

what have they improved? team defense was terrible, we relied on scoring. We lost alot of scoring, and arguably (yes arguably, i have seen robidas and polak play many times) improved our D, not overall team D, which can be considered weaker without Kuli, mcclemant, bolland.
We're not tougher either, however people seem to think we are. We were a playoff team last year as we had decent depth (which is now gone).
What went 'wrong' last year is our play caught up with us. We play like Pittsburgh with half their offensive capabilities. It works for Pit until they come up against a stellar D team (NYR, Bos). It doesn't work for us as we don't have the weapons.
How anyone can say we imporved is beyond me. Didn't get much worse? OK i'll agree with that as it's all subjective. But to sit here and people seem so confident is baffling.
Matt Fratttin and komarov don't make your team better or tougher. I'm sorry. Komarov led the league in hits; guess what? Franson was top 5 in D hits. Is he tough? |

No.. You generally don't get fired.. Unless it's repetitive. There's a reason Reimer hasn't been traded, he holds value, like maybe stopping the puck.. Maybe. - Arctic_AARDVARK
He hold value.. That is why we keep him.
Doesn't mean he's any good for us. Somewhere else maybe. |

I don't think they choke. I just think that they can't compete. Simply not good enough of a team.
Teams going into the playoffs or fighting for a spot raise their game and play harder, meaner, faster hockey. The Leafs can't compete with other teams when they gear up for the stretch. That's why our collapses always happen near the end of the season. |
