As soon as their kids are ready he is gone probably through buyout. He is brutal in his own end, how any of you missed the blatant giveaways is beyond me, the gifts he gave the Bruins in the playoffs should have sounded the warning bell to all watching, well it did, he was bought out.
- LeafMan

lou its simple, how you dont see it is beyond me.

randy and grabo hated eachother, end of story.

I would like to see where he was before the team collapse.

I would like to see how his partners compared to the other guys' partners.

I would like to see what the other 30 #1 d-men would get in a contract signed today.

... and I don't like Phaneuf and would be more than happy to see him gone.

- Aetherial

Collapses, I count three now going back to pre-playoffs, are on his watch. That doesn't improve his value/worth.

There's a few all-star duos out there (Piet/Bouw, Keith/Seabrook), but lionshare of #1 Ds out there make their partner's better.

The dollar's not the problem, its that he's the worst of the league's highest paid defensemen.

Agree with you on that front with regards to him leaving, but the alternative, notwithstanding Rielly or Gardiner stepping into that role, leaves little to be desired.

he was being used in a defensive shut down role.. which was stupid on carlyle's part.

grabo is a pure offense forward.. just one of those euros

you pair a guy like that with responsible wingers with some offensive upside and you got a good solid second line.

but try to use grabo as a checking centre? thats on the coach.

- Dozzer

He is gone and that is all that matters, he is an average player nothing more but is a great ice cleaner though being on his ass all game, I will give him that.

Oh yeah, we're f'd. I was just defending the fact that people seem to think he is a horrible hockey player and way overpaid. He isn't, on either count.

You want to change the culture... fire Carlyle and get rid of Phaneuf. I don't think we get a better player in return, but it sure as hell isn't working with Phaneuf here so why continue down that road? This is the arguement I made before they signed him.

Rudy Gay was the best player in the trade the Raptors made and the turn around in that team's attitude and effort was instantaneous.

Isles fans, when you look at Kulemin, think about the system he was in last season. Now look at the success he had playing with Grabovski.

Of course you would...

...now that Kulemin is gone

- Pecafan Fan

kulemin scored 30 in 1 season, it may never happen again.

but i'd be suprised to see Komarov score 30 goals in his NHL career.

You know what?

The Phaneuf situation reminds me a lot of Koivu.
He was loved by some, but hated by others. He wasn't a #1 Center, but was slotted in that position because the team had no one better to play at that position. He never won anything but his teams were mediocre at best.

I have a feeling that if Leafs are out of the playoff picture come March, this indeed will happen, at least RC and Nonis will be gone. I have no doubt that Shanny is looking for assitant coaches that can step in (Tony Granato) and take over the helm if need be.

Playing PK and 3rd line minutes mostly.

I would've rather we put Kulemin on the wing and passed on Clarkson: the latter is a good Taranna boy, but their output is really not much different when you put ice-time and linemates into perspective.
