cant believe how fans wanted so much change
Leafs changed a lot since the draft
they arent even close to being done yet....
GONE:.........................IN:
Raymond.....................Frattin
Bolland........................Holland
McClement...................(empty) - STEVE OTT?
Kulemin........................Komarov
Bodie............................Ashton
Smith............................(empty)
D'Amigo.........................Carrick? Leivo?
Gunnarsson...................Robidas
Ranger...........................Granberg?
Gleason.........................Polak
MacIntyre......................Sparks? Bibeau?

Say Good-bye?
Reimer
Franson

Looks like the whole "Culture Change" thing is well under way since the transaction freeze lifted. People need to quit the b!tchin. Whats it really gonna help anyway what we think or want, unless we're running the team ourselves

- Davey_Crockett

Our hands are tied cap wise, I know. But the reality is we replaced average players with average players and a borderline nhl'er.
But what was nonis to do I suppose.
The leafs will be right at the cap ceiling and will must likely have another top 15 pick.
Leafs mediocrity is getting boring

They couldn't. The players they wanted went elsewhere, they got the left overs.

I like Frattin addition.
Komarov ok as well, although don't believe for a minute that he can deliver the promised points.

Not too fond about Robidas and Polak additions (I like Gunarsson as 3rd D, IMO a victim of Phaneuf's unreliable playing style. Gunarsson - Rielly would have been a great second pairing next season).

I like Kulemin and Grabovski as well, so not happy that they were let go over the last two seasons. Seems like Toronto does not do a great job of managing players, with RC's coaching style no wonder that more intelligent and empathetic players are scared away in favor of neanderthalers (0 class, 0 intelligence) like Phaneuf.

Taken this into account, Toronto will go and try to sign:

One of Ott / Legwand (will end up with Ott, since more 'neanderthaler' like) 3rd line C.
Konopka 4th line C. (faceoff%) or worst-case scenario bringing back Steckel.. If not, they'll just play Smith there.

Wouldn't be surprised if one of the following players was signed on a 1-2 year deal:

Penner / Stempniak / Setoguchi.

In goal, the obvious thing to do would be to keep Reimer.
Nontheless, Leafs will not do the obvious, and probably trade him (where??) and sign Vokoun/Bryz, or aquire a goalie in return in the trade for Reimer like Stalock from SJ, Labarbera from ANA).

Seems like strategy is to go with a cheap 4th line, and work out rest of team via trades (Franson, Reimer, Lupul).

Team for next year:

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
? - Kadri - Clarkson
Frattin - Ott - Komarov (4th line playing 3rd)
Leivo - Konopka - ? (McLaren/Biggs/Orr)

? - Phaneuf
Rielly - Robidas
Gardiner - Polak

Bernier
?

Surprisingly, this team might actually make the playoffs, but will be a typical first round loss in 4/5 games against NYI.

They got some of what they wanted.

And so happy that Gorges didn't agree to come here. Thrilled.

On here leaf fans love every move at first. Reason? All they watch is the leafs. They have no clue about the players we get. Then they see them play and call them crap. Robidas is no better than gleason. Both broken down warriors. Polak is tougher than gunnar (fights 2-3x a year and not a good fighter) but not as fleet of foot as gunnar. We lost depth scoring and gained nothing. But yeah we're way better.
- clark_griswold

Leaf nation are easily woo'ed!
Why do you think they are the richest team without actually doing anything the past 40+ years.
But plenty of summer left, let's hope nonis isn't done

I agree on both fronts. They got a little tougher defensively.
Gorges was not the answer, he had a good playoff run, but other than that, habs fans wanted him gone.

The nice thing is the Leafs didn't decide to lock up good but replaceable players at escalating salaries, instead are shifting them out and will likely rotate in some younger players who are in their cheap years. People saying we lost ufas, do you want 12 million sunk into Bolland, Raymond and Kuli for the next several seasons? Or do you want to keep the key pieces and rotate the support pieces as they become expensive, like the Blackhawks do.

Good to see the jays still kicking around. They need to go on an 8 game winning streak to build a bigger lead.

I heard the Leafs offered Brian Boyle more than the 2x2 he got from TB. That is a guy that the Leafs could have used. Heard the LEafs had interest in Moore too.

Leafs apparent;y sniffing aroud Legward, hope they don't overpay him.

yes cause his world (including olympic), KHL, and euro league experience count for nothing.

people get way too worked up about that. he chose not to play in the NHL, it wasnt for lack of opportunity.

Honest question: have you slept since July first, or are you afraid people won't take you serious if you're not a 24/7 stream of negativity?

Leafs were a non play off team last year with a decent chance of being one again this year. Soooo Boyle for example chooses the Rangers. Doubt it is too much more complicated than that.

Media craziness likely doesn't help with a high number of guys too.

i agree with the media part

but up until the end of the season the leafs were second in the division.. most guys would feel the team is just about there

just a thought, but since phaneuf became captain have the leafs managed any high profile FA signings other than Clarkson? honest question i dont want to look it up lol.
