A Stanley Cup connection to the gm who signed him. - mykokes

true..... but letting him walk and not caving to the homegrown, you gotta overpay to play here has some merit. - Rockhead_37
I guess
I just cant see how they think he is worth close to 4.9
the more I look at it... he is really maybe a 3-3.5 player..and I see why Chicago walked... he is living large off 1 goal

Still not sure why he got the big jump in pay.
What did he do to earn it - bixll
I like him...seeing other contracts...I think he's better than Komarov and he got $3m...I know he's injured..but the games he did play...looked good to me. |

at his age, he can't risk taking a bridge deal of some sort...he had to do what he had to do...could be his last contract..doesn't want to live on cat food after hockey |

If he's seen as a 2C then he's worth that kind of money, injury aside.
If the Leafs had a real 1 C and didn't have Kadri as the 2C Bolland would look pretty good as a #2... The contract he got isn't a cap killer, it is however too much for a 3C. |

he was pretty valuable to the hawks when they were tormenting the canucks....
4.9 to try and keep a hometown kid on the team... wrong kid, wrong price, glad he's gone... all that's left is to determine if he scores on his 1st or 2nd shift back. |

what were the good moves? - senstroll
-Robidas adds a needed veteran presence and a R shot to play with either Rielly or Gardiner.
-Gunner was a subpar defenseman, held back our top pairing, and sacrificed better D for a bit of offense, something we don't need at all. Gives Rielly/Gardiner more ice.
-Polak strengthens our other pairings with a R shot, and is a better SAH D than Gleason, Gunner or Ranger.
-Komo is a 3rd liner who can play the PK and gives us that pest presence that is so valuable today. With more ice and more experience now can likely chip in ~10 goals.
-Did not tie up long term any additional cap, increasing our flexibility for next season and beyond (better UFA classes), and gives more Marlies an opportunity to either make or break
Soooo, what move HASN'T been good? |

I'm happy they didn't resign him..especially at that price - just too risky. |

Penner & Stempniak. Former 1st rounders out there too, like Jordan Schroeder |

If we see everything the same it would be a boring world. On that note, I think the Leafs got a bit harder to play against and that fuels other lines compete level, hate to use this but it has a domino effect throughout the lineup. |

Would be interesting to give Schroeder a top-6 chance... still young, and we have that empty wing position.

How does Komarov get $3 milly X 4 years, and Steve Downie gets 1 year, $1 milly?
Sometimes the world of NHL contracts is a big mystery to me... |

Downie loses 1 million for being deaf in one ear, and loses another million for the obvious mental issues that come with him. |

Steve Downie is seems more than slightly imbalanced and spends a lot of time in the box for making poor decisions. |

Downie takes stupid penalties..they will probably pay him an extra $2m to stay home after the 30g mark. |

His hate for Komarov (although all of us were right he was sorely missed last season) is stronger than mine for Dion. lol |
