i understand, but when you play with quality D men your game gets better.

STL made the trade because they have a D man ready to make the jump to replace a guy like Polak, and needed a dman that was of gunnersons caliber...not totally O minded, or D minded, sort of in the middle...to play with shatenkirk.

- big_dion

I'm not sure how people can defend this trade. St. L says Gunnar is top 4, and we get back a bottom 2 guy and think we've upgraded? There's a reason they brough in J Bo, because they knew Polak wasn't good enough to be top 4.

Maybe I'm just naive, but I like what we've done so far this off season. We haven't made a ton of changes up front, but offense wasn't really our issue last year. Lots of new bodies on the back end and remember guys like Reilly and Gardiner are still growing and developing their NHL game.

I agree with Djamon. I wasn't expecting miracles but i was expecting a clear direction. Either tank fully or attempt to improve; our roster could have gone either way. We swam in circles here and tied up more money aimlessly (again komarov has a role but 3 mil is gross).

I get all the time left for 'change' but the draft is by far where the most trades happen and for good reason.

This team is clearly passed tanking as an option.

STL is also a team of Selke minded players. If TO's forwards would help out once in a while instead of waiting at the red line, the D wouldnt look so bad either.

Perhaps you missed where someone here called him a warrior.

That's a term that doesn't get thrown around a lot here on Hockeybuzz - if someone uses that term, it really, really means something.

Warrior.

Yes, you are jealous.

So I guess you're not a fan of 20 minute d-men who know how to play defense and play beyond their 5'11 190lb size?

At about 10:30 this morning, we were really close to having everyone agree on how Nonis did yesterday. We just needed to put the final details into the Frattin trade.

And then it all fell apart.

These life altering events take time to work through - we need to get back to the table and work on it.

Did the guy that was losing it about the $200k in retained Gunnarson salary stop cutting himself?

so...he takes over gunnar's 19 minutes a game.
- clark_griswold

I was thinking Gleasons. Rielly will likely take Gunnars....and Robidas will take Fransons and Rangers.

Nothing changes his age or the fact he broke the same leg twice last year.

Hopefully he's drinking gallons of milk this off-season.

Gunner is Top 4 because they need a LD to play with Shattenkirk. Polak is Top 4 that was relegated to the third pairing because they have 2 better RDs ahead of him.

I'm failing to understand how people missed both GMs talk about this stuff Saturday.

How about a second line of Lupul, Kadri, Downie backed up by that third line of Komarov/Clarkson/Ott. Might as well get Carcillo too!
- mykokes

I love this idea.

Yeah, they challenge for last, but along the way they fcuk up some sh1t on other teams and the entire NHL hates us. #goodtimesinTO

I honestly have no idea how Robidas (or Polak, for that matter) will look on the Leafs. I don't watch the Western Conference.

Once again, I realize that you treat every one of my posts like it comes from a burning bush, but really, you need to just relax and enjoy them for what they are:

Me riffing because I'm bored at work.

"Warrior" gets thrown around here far too often.
