How about Martin and Sutter to Carolina for Semin and a no.2 pick?
- sjfpp

LOL about Alexander Semin. One of the worst contracts in the NHL today.

I am thrilled with the fact that everyone wants to trade Sutturd now, I realize it's what logic indicates but still I like it.

I'm all for clearing some space to make things work but if they opt not to and re-sign Sutter then there's even less space. A guy like Heatley or Setoguchi for the short term on a cheap deal would be okay to try.

I'd love if they look at Peter Mueller on a short and cheap deal as well.

Ideally being able to move Scuderi for the space would be there. Moving Martin isn't a must, but I can see them extending Ehrhoff and still playing Harrington and Dumoulin with bigger roles afterwards. Obviously Martin gets you a better return than just space as well.

Am I reading that you are a proponent of unloading Sutter and signing two guys that have been complete garbage the last three years in Heatley and Seto? If I'm mistaken, my apologies.

Chances are the Penguins add a top 6 F and you can add Bennett or Dupuis to that mix as well
- Ryan_Wilson

Agreed. The ideal scenario is trading scuderi and bringing in a top 6 so either bennet or supuis can go up if someone gets injured. Still a lot of time to get this done.

With Goc for 1.2M and all those bottom 6 signings he becomes expendable. Plus his money can be used torward a legit top 6.

I have to leave these things laying around to bait you. At this point if we have to move Sutter then fine. I'm just saying if they go after some really cheap options, they're probably available. I'd like Vrbata if it's possible but right now it doesn't seem like it without a move. They probably won't go over cap and then make a trade. So if a trade is happening I'd rather move Scuderi, Sutter or if we must, Martin. In that order.

I don't know if Detroit would go for it, but with Mantha potentially getting a crack at their roster and them wanting to get a good defensemen, I wouldn't rule it out.

I don't agree. Sutter is a better player. Especially offensively. Once he had real NHL players on his wing, he improved.

I don't want to pay him 4mil, he's not worth that, but If they trade him they need better than Goc to replace him.

I still think trading Martin is the route to go. If they feel they need to bolster the D for the playoffs that can be fixed at the deadline.

Goc is plenty good as a third line center. You'd be surprised just how close they are from an offensive standpoint.

The Penguins third line center just has to be able to take on a defensive role and not drown in it. Goc can do that and he does it at 1.2M. Sutter looking at 3.5M from what I hear, perhaps up to 4M. No thanks.

Like I said today. Don't fall in love with average players. If they make sense financially keep them if not, move them (applies to MAF as well).

I give Goc a slight pass. He was brought in at the trade deadline as players were coming back from injuries which jumbled lines a lot. Then he got hurt for a month. I want to see what he can do after a full training camp with a fresh start and familiar line mates. That could really push up his play.

I don't think Detroit would give up Tatar. But I would gladly take a jurco + deal. I would rather have stempniak back than ever see the bag of crap Heatley put on a pens sweater

Sutter is a better player. It's pretty simple. Funny, people are all about play-off performance on this board. Well, he along with Jokinen were our two best forwards. This is what you get from him with two decent wingers and not garbage like Glass and Pyatt.

Vrbata has failed moreso that done anything of note. People just seem to want to settle for enigmas or garbage players to fill the roster.

I'm not in love with Sutter, but I think he was badly dragged down by pure crap as line mates last year. If they can move him for a legit top six wing, I'm ok with it, but I think the best solution is to move Martin (a guy that has already said he's not happy with the direction of the team and he's leaving next year).

Vrbata to Vancouver. A trade may be the best option for upgrading now.

I think if you really want a top 6 wing you will have to combine them both.

I know you like to dump on things but he's really not a bad for for what this team is trying to do now. He'd play fine with Malkin. Now he's going to Vancouver so don't worry about it.

If we can get a good+ Top 6 option and a good pick back as well then get it done. There's a good bit of money ready to come off the books next year for FA and we obviously have a cupboard of defense ready to play. Ehrhoff back would be great. His signing and Goc make it all possible.

Maybe that's true, but it's a deal they could live with as long as it's a good one under control.
