I wasn't banging the drum, just quelling the idea that Despres was some kind of polished finished product that made the Penguins significantly better.

Despres getting the chance to dominate (finally) in the AHL during the playoffs was more meaningful than 10 meaningless late season games would have been.

yeah, playing 10 NHL level games isn't better than 10 AHL games. He still would have been able to play in the playoffs in the AHL.

he did outscore grabovski. Ironically though. I thought Grabvoski was gonna be the poor lockerroom guy after gm's stayed clear of him. turns out the reason I thought grabvoski was such a poor pick up is what got robiero canned. I took that one on the chin

Grabovski was asking for 5 years and 25M from Washington. They should have done it and not signed Orpik. I can't imagine him coming down from that price. I just don't see a fit even if Sutter and Martin are traded. He's a #2 center.

i can only see this happening if sutter AND scuds go. i think it could work if martin stayed.

Not sure how that comparison makes sense as it concerns whether to trade Martin or not.

is more likely to produce a Cup than:

The question is, how do you know...if you don't play the young guys. I mean, by all means...keep playing the Engellands of the world because they work hard in practice. You don't let Martin walk for nothing. He has stated that he want to go to FA. What we don't know is if Ehrhoff will resign or not. We know Martin isn't.

The Penguins' best chance to win the Cup next year is to hold onto Paul Martin, he's consistently been their best defenseman. If he walks, so be it.
