We need a top six forward.
- Oneonta Penguin

Doesn't seem like the FO agrees, and it makes sense.

Dupuis deserves to get his spot back, and they need to find out if Bennett is a long-term top 6 answer before he becomes an RFA next summer.

They've added two 3rd line wingers to ride with Sutter, which seems to indicate that they're not moving Dupuis down the lineup.

Isn't that what everybody was clamoring for during the stretch run last year???

The only thing positive about this is Downie was brought in to protect Sid's and Geno's ass from Claudia.

If he was having a huge season and the Penguins are contenders, just don't trade him?!? Seems pretty simple.

It's just the fact that issuing ultimatums like trade him now or never don't make sense, because why don't know what the deadline is going to be like at this point.

There are multiple scenarios where not trading him now, but trading him at the deadline makes sense.

My thought process is if he isn't going to resign, trade him now and let the kids play. Everybody is worried about Maatta not being available until Christmas........who cares?!?!? I would rather let Dumoulin, Harrington, Samuelsson, and Despres get opportunities to play with the big club in October, November, and December. Hockey before Christmas means nothing.

Bennett will be injured in the first 10 games of the season. It's his MO.

It is as if people forget that our D looked the most coherent last year when the kids were playing. We also now have a coach who should be more willing to help the kids through those errors without banishing them to the press box.

I'd rather trade him after they find out about those kids than before.

I don't even care to say I told you so to anyone, because that would quickly be squashed with the million other things I predicted that didn't happen thrown into my face; plus im just too happy to, I love you all.

The GM went out and signed Ehrhoff. That means he's comfortable with one spot being open for a kid, but not two. Martin leaving takes it back to two.

Curious what made you happier--Giroux news or Downie? I assume Sutter leaving would immediately vault to the top.

All fits under the cap with some leftover for deadline and injuries.

Team is deeper and should be tougher to play against.

I'd rather have Downie at 1/$1 mill than Kulemin for 3/$10 mill.

On paper. not too bad JR.

My problem with this line-up is that there is nobody in the bottom 6 who can move up and play top 6 if/when there is an injury. Signing a top 6 guy and moving Bennett or Dupuis to the 3rd line gives you that flexibility.

That is a very dangerous game. You stand a better chance getting a young top six forward type, or one that can turn into one now than at the deadline.

Id bet more on Scuds, but either way it would really mean 3 not 2(I am figuring that 7th spot will be rotated a lot more this year with Despres/Borts in the 5/6). Borts will probably be in the 7th spot by midseason--1 of Harrington, Doumolin, Samuelson, DP should overtake him. Id also guess Maatta gets rotated with Despres between the 4 and 5 spot so they can limit his playing time a bit more and not have him burned out in the playoffs.

Because if Martin has a huge season; the Pens do their thing in the regular season and puts themselves into a challenger for the East crown and a Cup and then you trade him, it ruins the D pairings and it could have a negative effect. Trade him now, or hold onto him and lose him for nothing. It would have more of a negative impact than a positive impact at the deadline. Just my opinion.
- Oneonta Penguin

you made my point. If he has a monster year then he is more valuable to the pens chances at a cup than whatever we get in a trade. if he has a decent year, but so does ehrhoff, letang, youngsters, then it gives you options. and players are worth more at the deadline than in the summer. for example, look at kesler. nucks get a better deal with sutter/despres/1stat the deadline than they did in the offseason. hey, maybe ehrhoff is the one traded at the deadline? or despres?

He's a good nasty player and class is such BS in hockey. Every team has a guy that toes the line. That is hockey. People are just getting to soft about sports nowadays.
- lloyd095

maybe people are just getting smarter about sports these days.
