AHL is a much more rough and tumble league than the NHL. Brawls are far more commonplace.
- Jsaquella

Most def... most AHL teams have multiple goons... but using a third contract slot on one? Mathers and Rosebud already locked in... I'm thinking they probably could have gotten somebody similar on an AHL deal. Stortini's is a better hockey player than the two aforementioned guys, but still.... puzzling.

Eh, still the Flyera...also, they have only 41 slots filled, IIRC. Not as much of an issue as in years past.

Not really, most are going into Panaccio's blog for that, since the blog itself is a joke

Was that the soapbox one about giving G a stern talking to? I already hit that blog up early on... I'd have to bet money on that he will NEVER look into the comments section. He knows better

He's very puritanical. He was one of the media that harped on Carter and Richards off ice lifestyle and helped turn that molehill into a mountain, and now Giroux's little escapade has given him more gist for the mill.

Of course, he's a well known wine drinker, with other writers joking about his affinity for Barolo, but what's good for the goose ain't good for the gander

Do you know what actually happened that landed Giroux in jail? He must have been pretty out of control to end up in jail. It's not like he's 19 years old. The guy is a grown man who has accepted the responsibility of representing a multi million dollar company. Time to grow up. Because of who he is this IS a story. I'm all for the media attacking him over this. If you don't want this kind of attention don't act like a douche bag
- Dkos

Yea he was having fun and was drinking and acted silly. I don't know about you, but I had my share of shenanigans when I was in my mid 20's. If he wasn't Claude Giroux, it wouldn't be a story. It's funny, and not a big deal. And as far as I'm concerned when he's not in a Flyers uniform, or not acting for the Flyers in an official capacity. The only thing he's representing is himself. When you're not at work, are you representing the company you work for? The media can report it, but it should only receive the coverage that it merits. Which is very little. But they'll blow it out of proportion just as was done by calling him a douche bag. If there was a pattern to this behavior, you might have a point. But one isolated incident, not much of one.

if i were flyers management I would give him a stern talk....Then tell him "thank god they didnt have camera phones in the 70's, 80's,90's", then wink...I could only imagine what would be caught on camera if they had that during the bullies era .....

While I'm disappointed with Giroux's behavior, this type of thing happens. I'm not going to throw away my Giroux jersey because of this.

What I don't like our beat writers doing is comparing this to the Richards and Carter saga. While both incidents involved drinking, that's where the correlations stop. Giroux is a good teammate and a good captain. The locker room has been nice and loose since 2012, why? Because this is Giroux's team. Under Richards and Carter, there was friction between teammates, cliques formed, and friction between the coaching staff and the leadership.

I just imagine an atmosphere like studio 54 with Bernie making his way around the room with a drink in his hand, shirt half buttoned, working the room. They just lost 2-1.

When they win, dear god...

Yeah they probably came to games and practices with a beer in one hand and the stench of weed in their hair and clothes during the 70's.

I read Tim's blog. Tim is definitely overreacting and I don't think Giroux spending summers in Philly is any sort of panacea. He could just as easily get in trouble here as he could back in Ottawa.
