I'm sure Laughton could play a bottom 6 role. But if he's not getting the minutes, I'd rather see him getting top 6 minutes in the AHL. Ideally, I'd like to see him play as one of the best 9 forwards on the Flyers and make them keep him.

As for a top six winger, I'd like to see the Flyers use Read there. Use Bellemare or Raffl on the third line. Sign a guy like Ott for a season or two.

- Jsaquella

im a big fan of his game, but i dont think Laughton will ever be a top 2 center for this team, partly by design.

Even say the team drops vinny out of the picture. You have Giroux, now schenn can assume second line center duties, coots, then laughton.

someone is going to have to go, or learn to stick with wing.

granted, that ridiculous and young center depth is by no means a problem.

it takes skill to sign literally an entire new first line in under 24 hours.

I am where I was 2 years ago. No trades or UFA signings unless it helps the long term picture. A+ so far.

Coots will be fighting for that spot, too. He gets the ice time as is, but it's all hard time. I imagine eventually he'll trade off some of those hard minutes to Laughton and get some better wingers on his sides.

EDIT: I mean to say, even if we get rid of Lecav, it doesn't guarantee Schenn a long term center spot. We can't keep Laughton on the 4th line for his whole career.

yup.

but still, if its G, schenn, coots, laughton.

someone will have to either go or learn to play wing to ensure none of them are on the fourth.

Or trade one of them for a natural wing (why I would be in favor of a Schenn-Kane swap)

Nothing wrong with signing a stop gap free agent for low money and short term to fill in a gap here or there. I wouldn't be surprised if that type of signing occurs in the next few days.

I have a feeling the Vinny trade is holding up the Buff and Evander Kane deal to Flyers

I think you're right, and then after that, the Flyers are shipping Kane to the Kings for Drew Doughty!

We all want mr Ryan from cherry hill to come home. What if Ryan isn't a hexy guy though? I'm not saying he isn't but who knows.

Could not care less if they add Bobby Ryan. Good player, but not exactly a guy I'm jumping through hoops to get.

They can move Vinny to the RW with Giroux, Schenn to LW and slide Couturier up to 2C and have Laughton settle in as 3C, if they want.

There's options.

Assuming there is no Vinny trade-and I still feel there's a good chance it happens-you can either play him at 2C and slide a guy like Voracek down to help him at ES and move Simmonds to Giroux's line. Maybe Giroux could center Simmonds & Schenn, with Vinny playing with Read and Voracek.

The big worry to me is getting better at 5 on 5.

His childhood bedroom is full of Flyers memorabilia, and he's always wanted to play for the Flyers. So there will be a hometown discount!

Exactly. If he wants to come here and take a reasonable salary, great. I'm not gutting the team or signing him to a Giroux type deal

Vinny had a lot of good moments last year, and a lot of teams did view him as a good #2C option that could be acquired on the cheap before getting their UFA targets. I wouldn't be terribly sad to see him stay next year.
