That takes a lot of luck. Hopefully, they keep more of their picks going forward to give them a better chance of getting lucky.

Luck yes but also what you pay scouts for ...the really good teams draft well in the late rounds but like you said you need to have picks to have a chance

Flyers should sign Heatley and put him with Giroux
He could regain his former awesomeness

The reality is that no team drafts well in late rounds. Some are better then others. Take a look at a lot of good players that were drafted late, and then look at who they took in earlier picks. If they knew what the player was going to be, they would've taken him a lot earlier in the draft. As would the rest of the League. I think a 2nd round pick has a 1 in 3 chance of making it.

You sound like chip Kelly but luck is involved but I do believe there's something to say for some teams that always draft well in the late rounds

EK's latest post has tomorrow as " day of trading"... VL, Big Buf, Marleau, Thorton etc

So In reality none of those guys are moved. I wish he would stop posting about VL.

I'm really happy with what Hextall is doing. He's bringing in good, successful AHL veterans to instill a winning mindset at the AHL level. Gone are the days of 3 or 4 drafted kids on a roster, playing on a team that sucks and is going nowhere.

It seems like a small thing, but young pro players that experience success, start to expect success. Rather than loading the Phantoms with marginal prospects who went undrafted, we will see a better level of prospect come in and experience winning at the pro level, with an organization that is trying to develop them into NHLers, not just to stock an AHL roster.

I actually don't understand this signing. Stortini takes enough penalties for an entire team. Is Hextall trying to increase PK opportunities for the kids? Stortini had 299 PIM last year

AHL is a much more rough and tumble league than the NHL. Brawls are far more commonplace.

They already had one. His name is Rosehill.
- PLindbergh31

I don't get it either. Seems like a wasted contract slot. Can't rosehill be sent to phantoms with his money off the cap?
