What? You mean signing a player to a long-term contract and then trading either before it starts or in the first few years? Don't think they've ever done it before.
- jmatchett383

Of course it's been done before, but I was just curious if certain clubs are becoming notorious for it in players' eyes and will it deter future players from signing with us?

Okay. I'm not sure how the recapture penalties work.
- jmatchett383

I haven't read up on them in a while but to my understanding they work as follows. The last CBA allowed for deals to severely back dive and be front loaded. Ehrhoff signed a 10-year, $40 million deal with the Sabres. The contract pays him $18 million in the first two years, then $4 million annually from the third to sixth years, $3 million in the seventh and $1 million in the remaining three. So Buffalo has paid Erhoff 18 million dollars thus far but only has been hit with 8 million towards the cap (40/10 * 2 years). The recapture penalties occur if erhoff retires before his deal would expire. They would be penalized 10 million dollars worth and it would be spread out over the years between when he retires and when his deal would of expired. So if they trade him and he retires with one year left on his deal, Buffalo would have 10 million in deadspace in 2022. Or if he retired with 2 years left they would have 5 million of dead space spread out each of those 2 years.

Canada Day is wild! The 5M bonus check probably didn't hurt either.

I need more information on Canada Day.

Is this something I need to consider a road trip for?

Rangers still sign free agents after burying a guy on a big deal in the AHL for a couple years.

http://www.ottawasun.com/...giroux-arrested-in-ottawa

Philadelphia Flyers star Claude Giroux spent the night in an Ottawa Police cell after an incident involving a police officer, sources tell the Sun.

Although few details were immediately available, a source said Giroux was arrested for repeatedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer. Alcohol is believed to have been involved.

If two people have a 100 dollars to spend in a store. One guy goes in and picks out all that he wants to buy, and spends 98 dollars.
The other guy goes in, picks out all he wants to buy, and only spends 88 dollars. The guy who spent 98 dollars mismanaged his money? Or did he just already spend most of his allotment. And has less to spend the next time he goes in the store?
This idea that because the Flyers don't have a ton of cap space, means that they mismanaged the cap, is false.

- MJL

Yes, if he spent his 98 dollars on a grill, charcoal, and lighter fluid but doesn't have any matches or tongs and his steak is 3 days past expiry and tough as leather.

Hopefully, everyone can see the difference in partying it up over the summer and during the regular season and/or the playoffs (can't remember when dry island was...)

I hear that the 1970's Flyers were all alcohol-free.
- jmatchett383

Grab a Philly cops ass in the 70s and see what happens. He might not get arrested, but there might be some more golf related cover up injury to report. Like giroux was whacked in the face by a 7 iron at a tournament!
