Retooling and going with youth is fine.

Anyone who believes that the current ownership is not a huge obstacle for the future of the Senators is a moron. This blog has identified a multitude of issues ad nauseam.

Anyone who does not recognize the abyssmal manner in which Murray handled the Spezza trade is also a moron. Return aside, the sheer stupidity of handling that trade in that manner is inexcusable.

No team would trade for a player to increase the trade value of another. Thats a stupid comment. They brought him in to see if he would fit well with Spezza. He did, but now they are both in Dallas. Also, it was done to try to make the first rd pick they traded to ANA lower by winning a few games down the stretch.

Dumb again! Hemsky was brought in on a prayer hoping that he could help Spezza and the Senators catch fire and earn a playoff spot. Melnyk wanted playoff revenue.

I just told you that the Senators did do that? So your comment is irrelevant.
- TheCalSen

Are you Darren Dregger or something? I doubt very much that is why they traded for hemsky

While it was too little too late and not the most realistic plan, I completely agree with this point regarding the reasoning for picking up Hemsky. That, and at that point in time, Spezza moving on was probably not a concern for the Senators. It should have been.

Duh! Ottawa has an abysmal ownership situation. A guy who is flat broke, tits up, out of cash. He is bleeding money from the team to try to keep his other interests afloat. On the other hand, Ottawa has had outstanding management by Murray operating under great restraints of a busted owner.

Was rather shameful and sad how Alfie left town. After all those years and all he did for that team, city/community..disgraceful.

I don't put any fault on Murray on anything that is going on, due to the fact that the guy's hands are tight. He can't make moves without authorization from the guy providing the funds. Is it an obstacle? (FRANK) YES. But it's also a way being safe from overpaid free agents. And there was a crap ton of them out there today. If you ask me the Senators dodged a few bullets today. Although I wish we could've snagged Christian Ehrhoff.

The manner Murray has handled the team over the last year is not all that impressive.

Melnyk is broke. No regular on this thread disputes that matter. It was the issue from last summer.

Go back to your hole. Alfie's time was up, you're just an outsider throwing rocks at a calm lake (<---- sick analogy )

See, if you were Ehrhoff, would you rather take $5-6M from the Senators or $4M from a good team who will spend money on you AND compete? It is much more difficult convincing talent to sign with a team known to be uninterested in contending.

If you had any understanding of debtor in possession financing you would know that Murray has threaded a needle from a ary long distance. Once the recapitalization is complete this team will be in very strong shape. It is highly attractive to ant outside investor right now, just as long as Melnyk can be severed off from any ownership position.

Old is old. He wanted $6m for 17 goals. Time for everyone to move on. He should have retired.

Why do all the dumb ones show up tonight. Players want to play for a contender. Rebuilding teams will struggle in signing high end free agents because their age gives them a shorter horizon for winning big. When your rebuilding UFA signing are not really all that helpful. When you contend, maybe it makes some sense.

I am not talking about throwing cash at free agents. If you had reading comprehension skills you would know that your comments are all relevant when Murray decided to tell the world Spezza wanted out, bumbled the negotiaions with the Blues and took Dallas' offer before free agency even opened. This is also extremely relevant when he decided to ship Bishop out for Conacher, throwing Alfie under the bus and the awesome manner he conducted his presser today. Bang on, spatso. Well reasoned.

You can try to make yourself look intelligent by using commercial law/business terms all you want but it has no relevance to the manner in which management has operated. It does make you look foolish though. Carry on with your excellent work.

If you had half a brain you would had read my post and realized I was saying that same thing to the fellow I quoted.

You have displayed that you are easily the dumbest person posting on this forum. Your failure to comprehend the written word is impressive. Is english your first language? Are you drunk? You cannot be that inept.

Free agents sign for 2 things. Money, and chance to win. Right now Ottawa can't provide either. Moulson and Gionta signed in Buffalo. Are they a contender? No. But they did pay them nicely. Brad richards took a huge pay cut for a chance to win in Chicago. Unless ottawa can atleast show that they are attempting to win, they will never attract anybody. You can't even keep the players you have.

Sorry but we is just entirely without merit your trying to gain attention to yourself by passing comments that have been debated by Senator fans for an entire year. I have been highly critical of ownership and the impact is has had on choices that have been made. I wanted Spezza traded last year. I opposed the Bobby Ryan deal. But, I did it respectfully and with courtesy. Senator fans were tolerant and respectful of my opinions. Often without vigorous disagreement.

It was never my intention to slam people or a team on their own thread. So, step back. Speak clearly, respectfully and honestly and people will respond to you. Play games and people will push back.

Hate to admit it, but I have to agree at this point in time.
