Suggested team slogans for next season:

"United in Dread"
"Light a mup (but just one - that's all we can afford)"
"A Goner for Connor"

Any idiot can spend, eh Eug'? Well, apparently not any idiot.

People cancelling their season tickets ,is the most likely outcome if they dont step the (frank) up soon .Like i have said ryan and mac extending would buy management more time but they cant even do this

It really sounds like Stewart is close. Fighting over prospects. I believe Murray hints at it in his presser.

I would love to see Ryan extended but I cannot see it happening at this point. Ottawa has lots of space to sign him but you have to wonder if Ryan would want to stay given the state of the franchise. If Ryan leaves you have to wonder how long it will be before EK65 requests a trade as well.

I hate to sound like tuna but things are not looking good for the Senators. It is time for a new owner and a new GM.

Stewart would not make any fan happy.

He is poop, everything the team has done today has been poop.

I really hope season ticket holders start cancelling in droves until the league kicks out Eugene Melnyk for good like the poisonous dinkweed that he is.

Pouliot would have been good, Stralman would have been good, Gilbert would have been good, getting anything along with Chiasson would have been good. The Sens are damn close to losing my support for good.

Unless it's something like a 3rd pick for him, that makes things worse … and I didn't think that was possible.

Tim Murray knows the Sens' prospects too well. I cringe at the thought of what Brian Murray will give up in making a knee-jerk reaction trade for a questionable Stewart. I cannot see Tim Murray adding a 1st with Stewart so this trade smells bad from the jump.

Ryan .Macarther??? why would they resign here ,because we got chris (frank)en stewart .And more than likely paid too much for him

Would you have wanted Murray to sign any of these players for the cash/term they received?

Pouliot 5 years @ $4M- No way I would do this contract. This has buyout all over it.
Strallman 5 years @ $4.5M - I think this is an overpayment.
Gilbert 2 years @ $2.8M - Not a fan of the player at this money but this would be the easiest to swallow of the three.

With regards to the trade, I would have preferred Chaisson and a 1st over Chaisson, the two prospects and the 2nd but Murray had the quantity over quality approach. Even a 1 for 1 would have been preferable.

They'll sign here because we will pay them... there are a lot of also-bad teams and a number of teams that simply won't be able to afford them...

Doesn't matter, though, because we still won't be especially good - in all likelihood.

I hope you are right ,if BM comes out and announces that he had resigned bobby ryan ,i think that presser would have been a little easier on him and the fans

I don't dislike Stewart - 64 points in his 2nd season, hitting 27 this year which is when dumb-a**es usually figure out it's time to fight for icetime or the money and puckbunnies dry up.

Huge guy, and if anybody can get through to a big forward about how to play, it's got to be Macstache.

By the look in Murray's eye he is up to something - I'm going to guess evander Kane or Patrick sharpe

Sweet Jesus, what is wrong with you people?

We are talking about a 31 year old player with a history of a back problem. So, Spezza gets traded for a nice player, 2 good prospects and a 2nd round pick in a good draft. Ottawa already has a deep prospect pool and they are negotiating the addition of players through trade.

Over the last 3 years Murray has entirely transformed the team. They made the playoffs last year while rebuilding. They finished ahead of the Leafs and 8 other teams while in rebuild mode.

Come September Karlsson will be named captain. Lazar will be fighting for a regular starting position along with Stone, Hoffman and perhaps Peumple. They are a very big, fast, physical team. They will be a fun team to watch with lots of skill.

How many UFAs did the Kings sign today?

I have watched UFA day every year and every year the teams making the big buys end up having to live with the consequences of over spending on over priced, over aged assets.

Everybody just calm down this is a good young team that is far better than some of you realize.

So what you're saying is, Karlsson is the next one to get jerked around by the team, and decide he wants to go elsewhere?

As you know I had hoped that Spezza would have brought enough assets that they could be flipped for Kane. Would you give up Chiasson, Stone and Peumple plus a second round pick in 2015 for Kane.

I am a huge Kane fan but that price would cause me to pause.
