Montreal wanted Gorges contract off the books.

They obviously didn't care for a return.

I don't mind that we didn't sign any big names to stupid money.

But why did we sign a nobody to stupid money?

Komarov for almost $4 million a year X 4 years?
This is pure insanity.

And most of those are developed internally. And don't take this as me saying he is a #1 center....but Bozak was producing like one last season.
- mykokes

Hopefully we have one in nylander.... The body frme tells me he wont be though

He was the weakest link. Couldn't help Subban and is on the hook for the next 4 years.

From what I understand, the Leafs made an offer for him saturday, Habs asked he waived his NTC to go to Toronto and he said no. At that point, every teams knew he was on the market.

- Pecafan Fan

I guess Subban's not a #1 defender, since he's not making Gorges better and needs someone to help him

2.75M isn't even 3M, AW. I don't get why we went so high on him, but if he can be our superpest and chip in 10-15 goals in his 2nd NHL season, i won't complain at all.
- mykokes

Star is saying $3.8 milly.

Oh well.

Also, as for backup keeper, Reimer is 26 so will get UFA status next season regardless. He won't see a dime above his 1.6m QO, and he won't get it in arbitration due to how his play dropped off last season combined with his clear backup status.

He'll take one year for sure, and will be forced to give it his all and play his best whether he's on the Leafs or not if he wants to see anything significant during next offseason.

This will be key for both trading him or signing someone else.

The fact is, on an intuitive AND observational level I agree with your conclusions about the Leafs.

What I want to see is someone take a serious look at *why* the stats may be wrong. Saying it is "luck" just isn't good enough. This is the advanced stats arguement:

100+ (67 games this past season) game sample where the Leafs performance belies the stats = luck

15 game sample where starting goalie is injured = Advanced stats are right

Yes, the season is 82 games and Colorado was ranked 27 in posession stats.

Further,
You mentioned earlier that the Leafs lost their best posession players and got worse as a result.

Would we have been worse if we had Partick Kane, or Claude Giroux, or Sidney Crosby on the team instead of MacArthur or Grabovski?

There are glaring exceptions to the advanced stats rules. That's OK, because they are still relatively new. I just wish someone would acknowledge that and starting working on a better model.

- Aetherial

there are too many points to address them all. kina all over the place
but if your way to disprove them is saying Colorado was 27th and made the playoffs.. then me saying LA was the #1 corsi/fenwick team and won the cup is just as valid. (note I am not saying that)

on the Bolded.. nobody is saying its perfect.. thats acknowledged by anyone who is into them.. and they are constantly being improved

So on the Fan this morning Kypreos and Brady (the 2 most knowledgeable hockey insiders today) said that Georges didn't want to play for the Leafs because of the locker room dynamic and that the whole rivalry thing was nonsense

They can't replace Lupul's production, there was a chance to get Vanek or Moulson but now there are no other options. Unless it's Lupul ina trade for another winger that can produce 20-30 goals
- Mr_Smokey

Hey i don't to move either Lupul or Kadri. I was just thinking from an oranization perspective, i'd imagine, if they had to, they'd chose Lupes over Kadders

oh I knew about the Leafs stuff ...

I just never really understood why the Habs were unloading him in the first place. I was not real familiar with how well he did or didn't play, but they had him up with Subban so the fact that they were willing to dump him for pretty much nothing didn't make sense.

if u ask me, they gotta move reimer even if for a 7th rounder.

i think him being in the dressing room is now a downer to the other players.

i dunno why, but i think that the meltdown and him losing his job makes the players feel weird around him, just a hunch.

Funny you mention that, I just rewatched the Forsberg draft, he looked like a little boy Foppa. At 18, the body still has growing to do. There are exceptions, ie. Ekblad, but I imagine Nylander will fill out and look more like his pops in time.

Won't the Leafs want to trade Reimer seeing as how he's unhappy ? They don't need the locker room distraction.

I still don't understand the D'Amigo for Frattin trade. They're the same guy, with D'Amigo being younger. Ah well, Kadri and Lupul probably wanted their old linemate back.
- mykokes

I underatand it as Nonis is trying to go to the same well that he feels the team was successful with (Komarov also)

i think its a lateral move at best..and would have preferred to see what d'amigo could do
