I can't get on board with the idea that the team got worse because they lost all that posession with Grabovski and Macarthur.

Would Grabovski and Macarthur kept Bernier from getting injured, because last I checked the Leafs were in 3rd in the east until Bernier went down and Reimer sh1t the bed.

They didn't miss all that possession for 65 games, but they suddenly missed it for 15 games?

It was not bernier / reimer..

Leafs ran out of luck; they were being outshot and had bad posession numbers during all year, so it was bound to happen that their winning turned into losing most games. Just a coincidence that it happened around same time bernier got injured. Reimer is a very good backup, actually 1B goalie. You can't do much better in backups than Reimer.

Mac could have been a decent cheap back up and Brennan could have been giving a shot.
- Fakepartofme

Agreed. Even if Brennan was the 7th Dman it would have been worth signing him again and keeping him on the Leafs. It wouldn't be any worse than having Ranger on the team would it?

Exactly.
Although I do agree, now that I think about it, we do have other D to be brought up.
But Mac could have definitely been useful.

If I'm chicago, I try to move Hossa.
- Pecafan Fan

What? Not going to happen. The guy makes $7,900,000 per over the next 4 years (cap hit of $5,275,000). He's also part of that 'special' group that was signed before the new CBA so Chi will be hit with all sorts of cap/contract penalties when he retires early (has a contract until 2020-21).

He's an elite player and plays a big role on that hawks team. I can't see them trading him.

Take away Orr, add Granberg.

So two more D and 4 more forwards at least.

Most teams run a 23 man roster don't they?

Am I the only one here (I know I'm not, it's more rhetorical) that was not expecting a quick fix going into next season?

We will likely miss the playoffs this season, which I'm totally ok with, and then apply further tweaks next year, and get more into the 6 to 8 range possibly.

My main concern with the Leafs right now is not doing anything to screw up the 2016 season. Call me crazy, but this is what I want right now.

14 (remove orr, add Granberg), plus you have Holland and Gardiner to sign, that is 16.

Won't know the cap number remaining until they are signed.

Leafs are fortunate in that the Marlies are right next door, so we don't have to carry extras as much as other teams.

Frankly, MLSE also has money to burn to fly someone somewhere last minute if need be that many other teams don't.

LM, if you deduct Orr and Granny, add Holland and Gards, you still have only 14 ..
