Come on guys. Brian Boyle wanting a bigger role doesn't mean he actually thinks he can be a top 6 forward and 20+ goal scorer.

It means he wants to be appreciated for what he does, and not seen as a trash hockey player.

Now, I am sure the coaches and teammates didn't treat him like that. But we did. The fanbase ran Boyle out of town. I have no doubt about it.

Would you want to play in a building when your own fans boo and whine at you every time you are not Gretzky? If I am a bottom 6 forward, NYR would be the last organization I wanted to play for.

He would have had a bigger role with us, I don't think he was contacted by Sather and their decision was made up before the playoffs

Come on dude, seriously. Boyle was not booed once as a player. He wasn't making enough money or important enough for the fans who choose to boo. They have way bigger targets like Nash & MSL.

His popularity here went up and down like a roller coaster, I wanted him gone for a long time but he won me and others over with his playoff performance, he was a big leader and picked up the heart and soul that Callahan took with him

I went to 10+ games in MSG this past season, and at each of them there were people heckling Boyle for everything he did. Yeah, there was never a fully sustained boo, but the collective groaning and whining is just as audible, worse probably.

Again, I think the "bigger role" is just a metaphor for being appreciated.

Ok, then we shouldn't ice a team in NY if its based on people making negative comments about their players. Probably not one player in the league no matter who it is on any team that doesn't get some type of crap from some of their fans. If Boyle's delicate sensibilities were hurt that much by some grumbling among fans then he should retire and do crochet for the rest of his life. Nash probably takes more poop than anyone, and MSL was booed after only being here for a couple weeks.

Then people are idiots and were swayed too much by the 20 goals without realizing all the little things he did. Plus, during the playoffs, he was almost canonized, so unsure that's why he left.

Rangers likely offered him ~$1.5M. Boyle was good at what he did...but he's a 4th line player and that's it. Rangers are too close to the cap to be overpaying 4th liners by 33%. $500K doesn't look like a lot but the difference in the type of player we can get between offering $2M AAV and $2.5M AAV could be pretty substantial. We need to get back to the Finals and to do that, we need to add another top 9 forward capable of scoring rather than keep a 4th liner for too much money.

Last summer, when McDonagh signed the $4.7M extension...we had barely over $3M to give to Stepan. Now imagine if we said "F it, give McDonagh $5.2M, it's only $500k, what's the big deal?" if McDonagh decided to hold out for more...well then We'd only be able to offer Stepan $2.6M AAV. Very big deal.

Once I accepted the fact that despite Boyle's size he couldn't beat up my 10yr old daughter I fell in love with the guy. I quit expecting him to win fights and applauded him for the courage. I never expected him to score 20 goals again and admired him for his ability to impact the play in both ends of the ice.

I wish him nothing but the best and I will miss him as a Ranger. Much like Prust, it just didn't work out for both sides this time around. No hard feelings...unless he breaks Stepan's jaw...or ever does that stupid handshake with MDZ again.

I wouldn't go as far as that, but yeah I had no problem if he would have came back on the 4th line. I just think people are trying to rationalize why he left, and possibly don't want to accept that maybe he just wasn't that into us anymore.

I personally never ever booed a player of a team I root for. I always felt bad for players getting booed. Yes even Rosival and Bruce Driver. I would rather just trash them on HB.

Yes since we don't have the offensive power San Jose does, not that with AV's game plan we can't generate offense but we don't have a Couture or Pavelski

Why doesn't some GM just hire a former pro boxer or MMA fighter?

Anybody know if Brock Lesnar can skate?

Where does Bailey fit now? They have to trade him. Or maybe the consider trading Strome in a deal for a top defensemen.
