He already took that one year cheaper deal last year, and had a good season, so I think he is going to be looking for some bucks this year, and there will be teams to give it to him. - Pete V
Oh ok, why am I under the impression he was just bought out recently? Probably cause I'm not too bright. |

Just a few things:
1. All good teams have to let guys go, because they price themselves out of the team's salary structure.
2. All good teams need to find effective replacements for those guys, who can play on entry level contracts.
3. The success or lack thereof of point number 2 depends upon whether a club can draft and develop the necessary players to step into key roles vacated by guys that took big contract elsewhere.
4. IMO, and this is solely my opinion, you have to watch how much money you spend on a fourth line, no matter how important that fourth line may be. You have to do that, because if you don't, then you are complaining about either your second or third line.
4. I find it amazing how a player can be dog sh*t in the eyes of the fanbase for months on end, and then obtain hero status when they hit free agency based solely on how they are playing at that particular moment in time. If a player is in a slump, he sucks, let him go. If a player is playing well, he is the most important player in the world, and can't be let go for any reason. Shouldn't we look at the bigger picture when assessing anyone value to the team, and whether they should be re-signed or let go.
5. There is plenty of time before next year's playoffs to deal with roster deficiencies. Teams aren't built exclusively in the first week of July.
6. We all knew that some version of this was coming based on salary cap issues, which are unavoidable for any team. Time for the young guys to step up. - Pete V
Rules to live by from Pete V
I don't disagree with any of the above, but that doesn't mean I have to like it or agree with the moves made so far. I don't, which should comes as no surprise to those who read me consistently. Number 5 is the key to me, but the Glass signing gnaws at me since unneeded and rather have Carcillo, who has shown what he can do, or others cheaper |

I would love to have him. Been mentioning him for a few weeks now, but when the Rangers decided to go with Boyle over a cheaper option on the second defensive pair, I think they may have priced themselves out of Grabo. He should get over $3 million per, shouldn't he? |

Wouldn't that deal make some sense for both clubs? Hags, Helm and Miller (or Fast on the third line. The wings add a much needed defender. The money is about right. |

I would be cool with it if it happened.
If the team convinces Skjei to turn pro, I think Moore does turn into trade bait |

If we got Helm I'd be a bit happier. I backed away from the ledge. I realized we aren't looking at a finished product. only 2/3rds of the top 9 are filled out right now. Gotta see what they do to address it.
IMO an ideal scenario is fill those holes now. If a kid can bump one of these replacements off line 3, it just makes the 4th line stronger with guys like Glass watching from the press box. |

I'm going to go talk to Kenny Holland right now. I'll report back.
Edit: Also, Conner Allen didn't seem out of place to me the couple of games he played with the Rangers. Indeed, I though he looked solid. I could be comfortable with making that 6th defense position open to a camp battle, if it meant money for a third line center. |

By the way, one thing I am really confused at with TB is how many of their forwards are listed as centers.... maybe they are game for a swap since there seems to be a relationship there. |

Glencross is prime but also a prototypical Burke forward. Don't see Burkey trading him.
As for Helm...speeeeeeed. Not much more than a 3rd line center though. |
