Yeah but they got a kid who has had legal trouble in Guptill, Nick Paul is 2-3 years away and non 1st round pick. Chiasson is a nice piece but I think Ottawa didn't get the best deal they could have gotten.

Not contacting a guy like D Moore for 5 days before UFA period is negligent. Players talk and this will leave a bad taste in the mouth of every guy in the locker room who was close to Moore.

It's one thing to play hardball and stick to your guns. It's another thing to walk away from a guy like he is nothing more than a number and be a total Richard by not even calling him for a week.

I'm not a Sather hater. Sather has done some great things as GM. I think the guy has even been able to atone for most of his blunders (see Gomez for McDonaugh). This is simply poor conduct.

I do agree. You don't owe a guy a contract, but you at least owe them a basic level of decorum and to be honest with them one way or the other. I don't know what has gone on between Sather and these guys, but you would hope that we aren't hearing the whole story.

As for basically all of our UFAs being allowed to get to free agency, my guess would be that Sather has his eye one or more big ticket guys (or medium ticket), and he is going to make a run at them, and then try to to back fill the roster with cheaper alternatives. I think he is trying to maintain maximum possible flexibility right now.

How is D Moore being allowed to test the market. He can't be asking for too much. Either Sather "thinks" he has a genius team-restructuring idea or Moore doesn't want to be here.
