Lightning fan here wondering how everyone feels about our stralman signing. from what I've seen he's a solid #3 type defensemen, good defensively, smart, decent speed but doesn't provide much offense. i felt like 4.5 was a slight overpay, but on the whole not bad at all for a 27 yr old. i'm wondering is stralman worthy of such a contract? is he really a solid top 4 option, or just a guy cashing in from an very strong postseason (especially finals).

Assuming Miller and Fast make the roster, and Sather pulls some magic and gets the RFA and Carcillo signed to the following deals: Zucc (3.0), Brass (4.0), Kreider (2.0), Moore (1.8), and Carcillo (.8), that would give the Rangers about $2.7 million in cap space for one more forward. Obviously, that number would go down commensurate with any increase to the above deals (which is obviously very possible, as I am assuming that Sather will bank relentlessly on his RFAs to take favorable deals).

I think you guys made out, one of if not the best signings today considering all the money thrown about, Tanner Glass got a 3rd of that and he's not even a 5th the player Stralman is

Rather find the spot from within, like Duclair over him

He's steady and solid. Deceivingly big hitter and physical too. Won't provide much offense any more which is shocking especially because he was always known as an offensive defenseman before coming to NY, but it's a very fair contract IMO.

I will admit that I think the playoffs this year was the best I've ever seen him play, but outside of one 20ish game stretch when the whole team was struggling early this season, he's been rock solid.

Slight overpay like you said, but Its not a bad signing if you have the money to offer. Really good defensively, don't expect too much offense.

Used to be better at the offensive part but not so great at the defensive part... Seems to have switched this season. Was great in the playoffs, but was streaky during regular season. Offensive game seems to be gone.

I'm down... Does Grabo signed for 2 to 2.5 million a year though?

Asked some of the fans who have watched him play in the Q. They say explosive offensive talent, but soft. That worries me.

No way. He had a good year, and with what these other guys are getting, I think you are looking at a minimum of $4 million.

Not sure how we can afford anyone outside of a Jay McClement for 1.5M.

Gotta find a diamond in the rough.

NYR sign defenceman Steve Kampfer to a two-way deal. Played in Iowa of AHL this past season.

One of the reasons we made it to the finals, our depth, took a major hit today, this is not a better team as of right now, major question marks

I think at this point it's wise to just focus on the RFAs. Assess how much money you have left and see what's left

It's hard not to think the team took a hit today but the time is now for miller. He is gonna have to as good as advertised, if he doesn't were screwed

I dig that -- like those numbers, probably accurate. Always assume more! The way the free agency goes, I'd love to lock up Brass or Zuke at about 4 - 4.25 for a few years. May seem like overpaying now, but the way free agency goes, these can be steals in 2 - 3 years, when guys like Dave Bolland start making 7 million

We'll see Vinny, I think last September we weren't all saying "OH man we have so much depth!"

Pouliot, Zuke both rode the pine on the bench... Was a long season, we'll see what happens.
