You get my point Pete. the 6 D we had worked. We weren't juggling people in or had to worry about whose in at 6th D or who plays what side blah blah. It just worked. A cup champion worthy defense. - mrhattrick27
Yea I understand where you're coming from. But really, Dan Boyle is a great hockey player. He's old, but he still has some left in the tank. And he provides us some offense and PP QB potential which Stralman didn't offer. It's not like we let Stralman walk and replaced him with like Cory Potter.
This move is virtually a lateral move in terms of ability. Boyle offers more offense while Stralman offers more speed. I really don't even think Boyle is bad defensively at all. |

They improved the offense from the defense tho..that's huge. At both 5 on 5 and the pp. His age is what's freaking everyone out - Slimtj100
Yes, and offense from the backend is extremely important with the way we play. Dan Boyle will be threading passes through the neutral zone to Kreider in stride for countless breakaways. That's something Stralman can't do. |

Let's all hope I'm wrong ok? Not that I don't think Boyle will be decent but I don't see the Rangers as having improved and are taking a risk. |

It's a lateral move I agree. For 2 years you get more offense, which we always need.
I think Klein as the 4 is the way to go and see how that works out first |

You have money and spots tied up for about 4 years with essentially one spot open for Allen skjei McIlrath or anyone else you can think. If two are ready where are they gonna play? Wait! We trade one, then everyone gets all over a sather for trading them and he's hated for that too. The man can't win, I'm convinced - Slimtj100
Things can happen at any time. Do we know john moore is gonna be here long term? Do we know Marc staal is? If we had signed stralman we would have 4 d-men locked up long term. Still very possible for a young guy to step up. I get what you're saying though |

What's the standard by which that is measured, however? If the Rangers don't make the SCF? Because that is hard to do and influenced by a number of other factors that don't relate to Dan Boyle/Anton Stralman.

I am thinking Stralman probably needed 5 for 25 to stay as a NYR, considering the whole Florida tax thing that Callahan told him all about
I didn't think they would pay any defenseman more than they are paying McDonagh that's for sure |

That would be unfair. It's gonna be a combination of eye test, finished second in the division and winning a playoff round. |

I am actually a little surprised that more people aren't at least intrigued by the idea of MacDonagh and Boyle on the point on the powerplay. |

According to the beat guys this contract he signed in TB was offered to us and we said no. I'm ok with that. As I said I thought it was $20 over 5. |

Another question, as of right now, seems like there is a good possibility that Hagelin-Miller-Fast maybe the Rangers third line next year. Hail to the Kids! Hope it works out.
Edit: But I still think there is some other center that is acquired. |

I just thought of something crazy...
Since McD is so fast and so good defensively...suppose Boyle plays with him?? Your 2nd pair is staal and Girardi who played together for a few years if I remember correctly. The same pair is the 3rd pair. Boyle played more minutes then anyone in game 7 vs LA, so he's still capable of logging big minutes |

Assuming Miller and Fast make the roster, and Sather pulls some magic and gets the RFA and Carcillo signed to the following deals: Zucc (3.0), Brass (4.0), Kreider (2.0), Moore (1.8), and Carcillo (.8), that would give the Rangers about $2.7 million in cap space for one more forward. Obviously, that number would go down commensurate with any increase to the above deals (which is obviously very possible, as I am assuming that Sather will bank relentlessly on his RFAs to take favorable deals). |
