Your missing the point..sigh

Appears so. I don't see any connection between letting stralman walk and trading Marc staal

I really hope I am wrong about all this. We got to the cup on depth and defense. Both of which will be completely changed this season for better or worse.

There is a reason Klein was and is on the 3rd pair. And everyoen makes it out like Klein has some magical NTC I don't know about. If Skej or anyone else is good enough to surpass him he'd be dealt away. It isn't that hard to understand. You aren't married to Kevin (frank)ign Klein.
- mrhattrick27

Klein was put on the 3rd pair to provide insurance when John Moore is on the ice. He's good enough defensively to allow Moore who is a little suspect in his own zone and is more offensive minded to flow freely. Klein allows Moore to do that because Klein is so good back in his own zone.

Dan Boyle is not a bad defenseman. I don't know why people think he sucks.

Okay $4.5M is too much for Stralman. $4M was the limit. I would rather have the money spent on forward depth but if it was going to go to a D man I would still take Stralman over Boyle

What is clear with this signing is it was either staal or Stralman..not both. Because of Klein they could let Stralman go. Now you have a pp QB for 2 years til a kid is ready. I think it was a great decision

You have won noteworthy change on the D core, Boyle for Stralman.

The offensive depth is going to take a hit, but isn't that just a matter of cap reality.

Stralman being $4.5 and not $4 makes it a bit easier to swallow. I thought it was the difference of 4 vs. 5 years for Sather to which i say who cares.

What if Boyle doesn't work out or Mesh with Staal?

I like it. Depending on the money, could be a low risk/high reward time of move.

Edit: I think I'm confusing him with someone else...

Double edit: Confused him with Peter Mueller.

What if he does, and helps the powerplay? What if he scores 15 goals next year? What if a meteor hits the Earth before the season starts and we all die?

I'm more of a if it's not broke don't fix it. Thought our defense was good and should have been left alone if possible that's all.

You have money and spots tied up for about 4 years with essentially one spot open for Allen skjei McIlrath or anyone else you can think. If two are ready where are they gonna play? Wait! We trade one, then everyone gets all over a sather for trading them and he's hated for that too. The man can't win, I'm convinced

So far I am happy with the signings.

Boyle - PP d-man. 2 years not to bad. I hope this doesn't mean the end of Marc Stahl.
Dom Moore - said this before - but I like his game for the role he plays.
Glass - I have read that some of you dont like Glass signing. I watched a few pens games this past year. It seemed that Glass did what we had hope Dorsett or Carbomb would do and actually fight someone. It seemed to change the momentum when Glass did that.

Morning from NZ, guys! WOW, what an epic start... a bit of a roller coaster, though. Happy with Boyle, gutted to say goodbye to Stralman... one of my fav D-men. Not too fussed with Pouliot, always thought he'd go... got paid way too much if you ask me.

Keep it coming!

You get my point Pete. the 6 D we had worked. We weren't juggling people in or had to worry about whose in at 6th D or who plays what side blah blah. It just worked. A cup champion worthy defense.

Glass is the worst player in the NHL and that's not a over exaggeration either. He was dead last for qualified Corsi last year.

I get your point, Tom. But, I am also not to broken up about losing Stralman. I have a high opinion of Dan Boyle. I think he is a good leader. Been through the wars. Plays hard. Has offense to his game that the Rangers need from the backend. And, I think will be a pleasant surprise to those that don't like the deal.

I liked Stralman, but would have been concerned about giving him the deal he got. It's not as if he's been great for an extended period of time.

They improved the offense from the defense tho..that's huge. At both 5 on 5 and the pp. His age is what's freaking everyone out

That was my issue exactly. Dont fix it if it ain't broken. Boyle's track record is irrelevant. He's still coming to a new team and a new system. We knew stralman could play here and log big minutes. Can a 38 yr old Boyle come in and log those same minutes?
