"Goalie Brandon Halverson, the team's highest pick at No. 59 in the second round, did not surrender a goal in the camp's first scrimmage as he played the first of the two periods.

The 6-foot-3, 176-pound Halverson, from Traverse City, Mich., was 12-6-1 with a 2.96 goals-against average as a backup for Sault Ste. Marie (Ontario Hockey League) in 2013-14.

"I didn't think I was going in the second round, that's for sure," said Halverson, who did not attend the draft. "I was hoping maybe fourth or fifth. It makes me feel really great. It was tough being a backup and keeping that confidence up."

Totally thought this dude wasn't a backup? Thought Clark said we'd only grab a guy we knew was a #1... Guess he saw something we obviously didn't since we don't follow prospects as closely.

Yeah, had written the following in my draft recap: Halverson was limited to just 19 OHL games in his first junior season as the backup to Matt Murray, the Penguins' 2012 third-round pick. Murray will turn pro next year, opening the door for far more playing time for Halverson in what could be a breakout campaign

What if this is the year that all of the GM's wait to see what everyone else does and nobody gets signed for days?

I don't think that's gonna happen. I think this 5 day talking period is going to contribute to an explosion of signings within first hour

Plus we don't have the necessary compensation to throw a legit offer sheet at him.

Ryan Johansen is having trouble signing with Columbus only because they want him to take a bridge contract and he is refusing. Glen Sather is the king of the bridge contract, what makes anyone think we would have an easier time signing him than they are?

The only real mechanisms to acquire Johansen would be an offer sheet, which we can't do because we are no longer in possession of the necessary compensation. Or trade, which we can't do, because we don't have the necessary pieces to get it done. I think the Rangers might put aside the bridge contract issue to acquire a top notch player from another organization, but the problem is that they have no ability to make that type of trade right now.

Heatey would be a typical, Slats signing. Former goal scorer, to slow now. So 3 years 9.2 million?

I thought they were talking last night? If that's the case then his time here was a publicity stunt and Sather has no respect, i don't care about how Mcdonagh was a steal, his old crippled mind should not be making decisions, here comes 2012-13 all over again
