PHILLY.COM: Sam Carchidi notes the Flyers lack of cap flexibility makes it difficult for them to make significant acquisitions this summer. He claims the Jets like Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn and the Flyers like winger Evander Kane, but the Flyers would have to include another player or a draft pick in the return.

Would you do it?

Carchidi is up there with Seravelli in the ineptness department.

Anyone who was expecting Hextall to do something "off the wall" is special. They cant do a damn thing until they move Vinny. Trading Grossman would be a mistake, at least as of right now. Attempt to trade Vinny first, at least for tomorrow after his salary has been paid.

Tim's piece has Hextall saying he is looking for a 7th D man, wanting to trade a pice (Vinny) and maybe adding a forward.

Ott for 1M to play 4th line wing, Setoguchi for 1M to play on first line (converted to LW), Del Zotto for 1M as 7th D, and trade Vinny and Rinaldo (I think he has reverted to liability status) for a prospect.

That is my DREAM. I know I'm delusional in thinking any of those players would sign for that. But a man can dream.

If we lose Coburn we are in serious trouble, needs to be a bigger deal IMHO or a part of a bigger deal elsewhere, Bogo or Buff would need to be involved (I don't want them to be but they would need to be IMHO)

Yes. I'd sacrifice the D this season to add a young core player for the next many seasons. I'm not expecting big things from this team in 2014-15 anyways.

Man in charge doesn't seem to think it's going to be easy:

How easy is it going to be to clear some cap space?

"It’s not going to be easy. I think a lot of people filled up today and that’s always what happens July 1. It’s not going to be easy. We’ll continue to chip away and work away, and we’ll find a way.

- Tomahawk

That requires context. Hextall isn't talking from the same position as the poster is. Hextall is not likely looking to move MacDonald. So from the context of who Hextall is looking to part with, it won't be easy. There's a lots of players the Flyers could easily trade to clear cap space. It's about who they want to trade. So the poster is correct in what he's saying.
