What I learned is we could have never apparently signed Stralman for 4.5 per bc of the job tax. And the Flyers were damn smart to unload a 2nd and a 3rd to lock in Macdonald at market value for that great playoff run.
- Just5

If the Flyers didn't have MacDonald, and Stralman was willing to play for the Flyers, they could've signed Stralman. But I'd rather have MacDonald. And I'm happy with the deal he signed with the Flyers.

One good thing about Amac is how well Schenn responded to playing with him. Who knows if Stralman would have the same impact. Honestly I don't know which would be better which is why I'm not a GM.

- FlyersGrace

I think Stalman's production would decline if he played 25 minutes like MacDonald has.

Well at least we've moved off of the tunnel vision view of Holmgren screwed up. Now we've moved onto putting words in people's mouths and attributing false statements to them! Well done

I've been consistent in my statements on MacDonald and the deal the Flyers signed him to. The Flyers got him for market value.

- MJL

And two superior players to MacDonald took less than market value.

Imagine if the Flyers had waited until yesterday to re-sign him...several comparable guys got more friendly deals today.

Although one could argue signing MacDonald also kept them out of the Orpik race.

- Jsaquella

There was one comparable guy to MacDonald that signed today. And that's Stralman. I think that MacDonald is a little better, so the contracts fit.

Reading on some other sites, I am absolutely SHOCKED at the vitriol people are spewing towards the Emery signing of all things.

- MBFlyerfan

It's a good thing it's only a cyber world. Emery with two bad hips could smack them all around.

That does matter -- Bill doesn't necessarily believe it, but I still think Schenn's got another level of consistency he can get to.

We kinda need that guy to get there, be a rock-solid No. 4 who can play more than he did last year

Congratulations! I checked the code.

Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Umburger-Couturier-Read
Rosehill-Laughton-Rinaldo

Grossmann-Coburn
Timonen-Schenn
MacDonald-Streit

Mason
Emery

Stupid Umburger and stupid Raffl can be switched if need be.

Ugh I literally just threw up in my mouth.

I'm glad the Flyers didn't go out and hand some long term deal like they have in the past, but realistically they would of if they didn't put themselves in this cap crisis.

All that really matters is how they play next year as a team, if not that year may not come for awhile. Inconsistent forwards, overpriced defensive corp and goaltenders that have played good at times, but need to prove they can take the next step. Put up or shut up time Mr. Snider.

Probably my new favorite reason for signing MacD early.

that is true. im still not a huge fan of schenn, but i do think he played some of his most consistent hockey when paired with Amac.

They did, but why did they? I'm more then willing to have a conversation on the deals with you. But if all you're interested in is posting from the tunnel vision and uninformed viewpoint of Holmgren sucks. Then there isn't much point to having that conversation.

Schenn's play actually picked up when paired with Gustafsson, prior to Gus getting hurt. I get that Berube didn't like to rely on Gus, but Schenn's play did become more steady when he was with Gus

I think that what Bill said about Schenn may be misunderstood. What he basically said is that at this point, Schenn's skill set of tools isn't going to grow anymore. He's not going to get faster, develop better puck skills, or suddenly become a point producer. His skill set is what it is at this point. But I do agree that consistency is the main area of his game where there is room for growth. When he plays at his best, he's a pretty good defenseman. But there's too many times where he takes himself out of the play, and stops moving his feet and is caught in no man's land. And he doesn't have the speed to make up for that.

i think market value is a fair assessment. i really have a hard time seeing it as otherwise.

no, not a steal by any means. but in all likelihood, he could have signed for more today if he was available.

Nobody has a clue how free agency will go & to see this constant complaining cracks me up. It's not that bad of a deal when compared.

1 backup goalie signing and they dropped to #2 with cap overage!

Come on Flyers #2? I know you can get to #1!

i am unsure of niskanens deal. you cant believe the rumors, but if its true, turning down more money in a seemingly better situation in TB to go to washington is a head scratcher. maybe orpik already signing there had some sway to it. you never know.

i still think erhoff realizes that he is going to be able to post a ridiculous statline, and increase his worth this time next year by 20 percent or so

Yeah -- see, I do believe there's a little more to Schenn. Not saying he's winning any Barry Ashbee Trophies any time soon, but I do think there's a little more there.

He's just gotta keep working at it, be consistent -- maybe Gord Murphy helps some there.

I'm not crazy, right? Or am I the only one who thinks Schenn has a little more to give?
