he showed early promise in nashville, but is a guy that will be back in europe within a couple of years.

Fair enough, the deals you posted we equally as bad as the ones I posted were good. Perhaps AMac got a little more bit not crazy money based on the deals from today. I can live with it, especially is he helps Schenn. Luke needs help.

I'm fine with what they've done too. I still think they need a bottom 6 forward though.

I'm just upset about how Boyle and Ehrhoff gave 5 finger discounts to our chief rivals.

- PhillySportsGuy

I think they need a top 6 winger more then a bottom 6 winger. Especially if Lecavalier gets moved.

Most of us agree with this sentiment. Flyers biggest problems are the result of frivolous spending in free agency. The team may not be better tomorrow, but they didn't do anything to hurt the team's future.

Emery's
- MJL

my only concern with him is his limited lateral ability. it's not as limited as most like to say it is, but it is limited nevertheless. he's a battler, and a great teammate. it's good that he an mason have a good relationship.

i'm not surprised the flyers brought him back, but i thought there was a very good chance they'd look elsewhere....maybe another veteran type...even vokoun.

Daley, Goligoski, Gonchar, Dillon, Benn, Connauton, Nemeth and Oleksiak are the 8 guys we have now.

I think Nemeth will be on the team next year. Oleksiak could win a spot, but I think he'll be back in Austin.

Benn or Connauton could end up being waived, but that's probably our group right now. Unless we waive one of those two, I don't see them doing anything other then bringing in a depth guy.

It's younger for sure, but not weak. Just not sexy. Building blue-line from within.

- mochoson

They still lack that top pairing guy though. Seems a lot like the Flyers defense except it's more mobile and small while the Flyers is more defensive and slow.

But you know what? I'm glad with what the Flyers have done today. I like Ray Emery as the backup, because of his toughness.

We're only going as far as our young players take us. I like free agents as much as the next guy, the addition of talent. But I honestly believe that the Flyers are better served by seeing if the younger players can become consistent, score/produce against the elite teams.

There are flaws, but I firmly believe they're going to be around 95 points next season, barring injuries.

Just about every mediocre to bad team in the East made improvements today. Im sorry but I cant share the enthusiasm. It could be a rough year with this roster as i with what everyone has done around us.

Not nearly as much as you, considering you're still going to convince yourself that the Pens are a contender when they clearly aren't -- way too soft and delicate

Aka the most money.

He just left the "best hockey fit" playing with 2 of the best players in the world.

- mochoson

Do you think that 5.75M a year was the most money that Niskanen was offered?

Probably some of that, too... sure seems like the top-end market for puck-movers wasn't what everybody thought it was going to be.

i've also seen him get sniped way too much up high, and that's common with the giants. you'd think all that extra size would help them up top, but it doesn't.

I'll take either. I'm not looking for something long term though. I'm hoping someone like Grabovski or Vrbata price themselves out then have to settle for a 1 year "show me" deal

just because these names are being accumulated all over the place doesn't mean it will translate them into being better teams. it's all on paper. i think it's very challenging for teams that have huge overhauls to be good right away. too much change.

I just hope they don't completely throw out FA as an alternative. They have had problems with over correcting problems in the past

For me when I read about his lateral movement, especially on the PK. I think it's about time that this team shores up it's discipline and takes a hell of a lot less penalties. And they also need to drastically improve the team defense, and find consistency there. If they can do that, Emery will be fine. And he brings a lot of intangibles to the team that are a big help.

Some teams did make some improvements, but as PSG noted and I believe, continuity matters for where the Flyers are now.

Berube's system is in place. We know those guys can play it, we know they can win with it.

They had 94 points last year, and as much as MacDonald's contract frustrates some of us, let's be honest: We tried to play Gus and Meszaros in that spot for 60 games.

And STILL got 94 points.

The Flyers are fine; continuity and consistency is going to matter with this team.

Basically. Certainly doesn't have a stand-out guy. Daley can be that guy at points, but can be inconsistent and isn't physical.

Definitely more mobile than the Flyers D, not as physical. Size isn't much of an issue. Gonchar, Benn, Connauton and Dillon all 6'2 and up. Oleksiak is 6'7, Nemeth is.

Daley and Goligoski only guys under 6 feet at 5'11 each.

Niskanen 500k more per year than MacDonald. Try and spin it
