Who is the top 6 defenseman on that roster? Seems pretty young/weak
- PhillySportsGuy

they are undersized, but the team as a whole plays with a lot of speed

I love that the Flyers are bringing Emery back. Good deal for the Flyers.

Niskanen on TSN, looking for the best hockey fit, likes WSH's forwards... no mention of Orpik.

They will. Their first round series with Bishop would have looked totally different. Lindback may not even be an NHL caliber backup
- PhillySportsGuy

i don't like huge goalies. 6'5" is my max. lindback is like 6'8". it's just too much body, and i think it inherently hampers their ability to stop the puck. bishop is a bit of an outlier here. agree that the series is different with him.

That won't help our cause

But you know what? I'm glad with what the Flyers have done today. I like Ray Emery as the backup, because of his toughness.

We're only going as far as our young players take us. I like free agents as much as the next guy, the addition of talent. But I honestly believe that the Flyers are better served by seeing if the younger players can become consistent, score/produce against the elite teams.

There are flaws, but I firmly believe they're going to be around 95 points next season, barring injuries.

Man we really can't sign anyone until Lecavalier is moved can we?
- FlyersSteve118

We could sign Vern Fiddler for about $1 million.

Correction: Boyle's AAV in TB is $2M, not $2.3M. Bad typing error by me. Regret the inconvenience.

i like emery, and i like having stability in a tandem, but i worry about his capacity to hold down the fort should mason get injured for any length of time.

I'm fine with what they've done too. I still think they need a bottom 6 forward though.

I'm just upset about how Boyle and Ehrhoff gave 5 finger discounts to our chief rivals.

Daley, Goligoski, Gonchar, Dillon, Benn, Connauton, Nemeth and Oleksiak are the 8 guys we have now.

I think Nemeth will be on the team next year. Oleksiak could win a spot, but I think he'll be back in Austin.

Benn or Connauton could end up being waived, but that's probably our group right now. Unless we waive one of those two, I don't see them doing anything other then bringing in a depth guy.

It's younger for sure, but not weak. Just not sexy. Building blue-line from within.

Emery's surgically repaired hip scares me. I like to delude myself into thinking that if he hadnt gotten hurt in 2010 we win the Cup. I really liked signing him, and I kind of liked re-signing him. But as long as he's the backup, I'm going to have this nagging fear that Mason will go down, and then Emery will go down and suddenly Leighton will be our goalie again.

You don't think they could earn a couple more points over the season by maybe not having an 0-7 start coinciding with a coaching change 3 games into the season?

Most of us agree with this sentiment. Flyers biggest problems are the result of frivolous spending in free agency. The team may not be better tomorrow, but they didn't do anything to hurt the team's future.

The difference between the Flyers in season cap picture and the off season cap picture is about 2M. So they can't get into a ton of trouble there. Hextall may just have the plan and staying out of LTIR, fitting in Timonen's bonus as much as possible. And seeing where the team is at the deadline. But that comes with it's own set of problems.
- MJL

Yeah, it seems that way. Worst case scenario would be to draft in the 14th spot imo.

Aka the most money.

He just left the "best hockey fit" playing with 2 of the best players in the world.
