Terrible news.
- Feanor

Meh, as long as the money is equal/less, it's status quo... goaltending wasn't really a big issue last season.

Why?
- aflyerpower8

Because Emery is particularly badly suited to play goal for the Flyers.

.903 is fine? Not to me.

Why wouldn't they pay Greiss the same amount or slightly more? He would be a much better fit here.

As of 4:15 PM on day one of UFA, the Flyers have the same defense core as last year, same goalies, and switched Hartnell out for Umberger.

No progress. I don't blame Hextall, he's got zero flexibility.

Is there like a QoC measurement for goalies? Because I am imagining Emery got tougher starts in general last year than Mason. I thought Emery played well for the most part last year. I have no problem with bringing in a known here

They may have. Greiss could have chosen Pitt instead.

At this point, there wasn't much else out there. Most available goalies are older guys anyway.

On the bright side, if they demote Emery to the Phantoms it will only cost $75K on the cap.

He's an injury risk, and his lateral movement is sloth like. Nothing against Emery, he was decent last year, would have preferred they went in a different direction. Would have liked Greiss.

His even strength save % was very strong. He struggled on the PK because of his inability to move laterally very well.

The #Flyers have re-signed G Ray Emery to a one-year contract & signed G Rob Zepp to a one-year, two-way contract. http://ow.ly/yFA1j

They have a new system. Probably lost some undisaplined penalties. Myabe they have a new commitment to team defense. Free agecny wasnt completed in one day. Still think the Vinny deal will really be the start for the flyers. The more that goes down without Nashville involved the more I think ny ends up there

I'd like to see that too.

Anecdotally, it felt like everytime Berube was unhappy with the team's play, he'd start Emery. Maybe the team is scared of him or something.

SV% in general is highly variable, especially PK SV%... I wouldn't exactly guarantee that Emery will be terrible again on the PK.
