I think he's good offensively. He seemed to be on his way to being a good player. I don't know what happened
- PhillySportsGuy

I'd like a defenseman to be good at defense primarily and then worry about offense. If you can't, you're not good. If Mark Streit looks like a shutdown defender compared to you, and you're a defenseman, you don't belong in the NHL.

Factoring in the injury history of that lineup, I'm gonna go ahead and say they'd likely win the NHL draft lottery.
- johndewar

Injury is a big problem.

Now, my next question is, after looking at this, how many of these guys would you want on the FLyers?

I have a feeling Flyers sign Keaton Ellerby at some point in next few days as their 7th defenseman.
- sulshawn

I'd be happy if the Philadelphia Wings signed Ellerby, because Keaton Ellerby sounds like a fantastic lacrosse name.

I've always like Marty Havlat, but I think he's declining and always hurt.

Otherwise, I'd pass on the lot of them.

Really? You don't say...

Well if that's the response why compare him to another player using goals and points?

Dunno if you'll get it. I STILL LIKE GROSSMANN. As much as he's maligned on this board we need a player like him until the kids are ready to go.
I'd be sad to see him go. For the right deal though I could part with just about anyone.

If money was no issue, about 5.
- jmatchett383

yup.
most of the other NHL teams feel the same way.
so those 5 guys are probably getting paid more than you would want to spend and the guys that I excluded, the better ones, are really getting more than you want to spend.
(frank) this free agent group. Even if we were to move Vinny and/or Grossman, we are going to overpay in $ and term for their replacement and then be pissed next year

I think the point is that certain enforcers are able to chip in some points every once in a while. Teams don't sign an enforcer to score goals, but it's nice thing when they can give you 5 goals and 15 points during the season.

And those type of player normally are players who play regularly, and cost more.

I'd rather move Streit, and sign Erhoff than sign Grossmann. In fact, if Alt is playing well for the Phantoms by mid season, I'd think about moving AMac for some more scoring on the wing and/or a decent draft pick and go with:
Coburn-Erhoff
Timonen-Schenn
Grossmann-Alt

If Havlat were able to play, say, 2 healthy 75 game season with G and V, that would be good money. maybe a bit soft though.

Guys I may check on today:

TJ Brennan
TJ Galiardi
Leo Komarov
Chad Johnson
Thomas Griess
Peter Meuller

I can't name any bigger ones until I move some salray. If Ducks want a rugged stay at home d then Grossmann would be perfect. Maybe you can get someone like Matt Beleskey or Patrick Maroon back as they can fill in on third line and Beleskey seemed to do well riding shotgun with getzlaf and perry. Or maybe a Sami Vatanen

I like those in theory.. but who are your 7th and 8th Dmen? Because Timonen is pretty much worn down and worn out, and Grossman is a cringe-worthy hit away from being out with a knee injury for weeks...
