The marginal difference in production between Umberger and Hartnell is enough to give up on the next 3 seasons over?
- Tomahawk

On and off the ice, even with his deficiencies, I feel Hartnell is a better player to that degree, yes.

I have come to the realization that Vinny LeCavalier is gonna be a Flyer for the next 4 years.

I agree. I would have totally understood a straight salary dump. Just seemed strange that Umberger was the best return they could have gotten.

DAL trades Alec Chiasson, Alex Guptill, Nicholas Paul and 2nd round pick in 2015 to OTT for Jason Spezza and Ludvig Karlsson

Chiasson is a nice pick up

don't know the other two

Better player yes, but enough to (frank) over their chances to compete over the next 3 seasons?

I'd contend that there are any number of guys on the team currently who could slip on G's left-side and produce 20G. 40-50P. I might even take it a step further and say that maybe there are players on the roster that could produce even better?

Yep, expect it. I think he's going to need at least 1 more season to get any sort of return. If he does well we might be able to pass him along at the trade deadline.

Funny you say that... I keep saying to anyone who will listen... Couts is going to have his break out year.. And if he does we will end up being serious contenders.
- jak521

Agreed. If everyone plays like they did last year, yea, they aren't super close. But if some of these younger guys who do still have room to grow do, they'll move a lot closer with what they have.

Then it comes back to finding that Dman. That's the rub. Figuring out how to sign Ehrhoff would be pretty sweet

Yes. Read can move up and produce 20+ goals and 50+ points. Is Umberger going to produce on the third line like Read does?

It moves everybody up a spot. I don't worry about our top line. A monkey could play with G and Jake and score goals. I worry about the overall depth.

Mmmm, not a particularly bountiful haul for Spezza. Guptill is a bit marginal... great shot, not much else. Nick Paul is a PF they drafted a year ago that had a meh D+1 season.

Spezza isn't exactly at peak performance right now either. He hasn't been a top line center for a couple of years now

Yeah. I mean, it was a pure fluke that he always ended up on the top producing line with changing linemates every season and postseason. A 5 year fluke. He's worthless, agreed.

Flyers keep Vinny, sign B. Richards to a 4.19M deal, and trade 2 1sts to Rangers for St. Louis. Rock like it's 2004 all over again........

Today is going to suck.
