I, for one, am not surprised how quiet they were. They have some space to make moves. But, who really fit the team style that would have been affordable? There are still a few names out there that can help. It's not like we had till 6 today to sign people. VL can still be moved. Don't the Islanders and Sabers need like a poop ton of cap to be signed. I, as stated before, will wait till the team plays it's first game to see what the finished product is. Hexy looks to be eyeing a cup in the next couple years not this summer. |

Ehrhoff and Niskanen on the open market available to all 30 teams, are making on the average less than Andrew MacDonald. Holmgren was bidding against Holmgren tho, so it wasn't a fair fight.

Both players took discounts for whatever reason. AMac signed for a slight overpayment. |

Ehrhoff
I would rather have Iginla with the contract he just signed over Vinny as it's a better overall fit for the team.
Other minor moves to bolster the 4th line/ D depth. - hereticpride
where would iginla fit?
erhoff would have been worth a flyer for one season at that price. niskanen, i don't like any 7 year contract. period. way too long.
lack of room is probably a good thing. they've got some new guys and youngsters coming in - i want to see what they have. no need to go crazy like a sailor on leave at whore island. |

There were plenty of over-payments out there. Couple of guys who took less to win are guys that got bought out and have the money coming. Nistikian, or however it's spelled, is not winning a cup in Washington. They need to over haul that offense some. |

So now you've taken two players, averaged out their cap hit, to come up with this premise? There obviously hasn't been any thought given to this, such as why Ehrhoff took the deal he did with the Pens. That is what is laughable.

He hits the casinos around the Gulf often, so he may not have even been in-state.

Hard to say they took a discount when the top guy 'only' went for $5.75M. Think the number of dmen available in the trade market is pretty high right now, coupled with the unexpected $69M ceiling, and the UFA's just not being all that good dampened the amount of money teams were willing to throw at these guys. |

I'll say it: If I was Christian Ehrhoff and I just finished the season on one of the worst teams the NHL has iced in the last 20 years or so, I would take a little less to go a team that won its division, too
He's got his buyout money to make up the difference |

And when we have to eat salary and take a decent cap hit in return, there will still be no satisfaction.

I'll be satisfied, because I would be flat-out amazed if the Flyers get out of that one "clean"

Well for Niskanen yeah. But Ehrhoff took an obvious discount, but that kind of makes sense. |

Willie Mitchell got 4.25M a year
Andrej Meszaros got 4.125 a year
Brooks Orpik got 5.5M a year
There's no question as the top defenseman on the market, that Niskanen took a discount. As did Ehrhoff. |
