Prediction:
Flyers will possibly do something to their roster today. Regardless of that action or inaction, some people will like it and some people will not like as much. - jmatchett383
Also, it will likely involve hockey players. |

How would you guys feel about trading a pick/prospect (3rd/Straka) and trying to get Jakob Markstrom out of Vancouver? - jmatchett383

I would have interest. Flyers have no 2nd or 3rd rounder next year though. I would like to see them stop dealing picks. |

Just using an example. However, being as he was picked 55th overall in 2010, they may have a clue of who he is. |

I have no problem with dealing picks if the player you're getting is young enough and projects to be better than what you'd expect to get with the pick. |

It's not about how much he's worth. It's about what someone will pay him. |

It sounds like the Leafs have made a bunch of offers of like 5Y 5M AAV or so…. and he wants MORE? The hell? He's never scored 20 goals |

I agree. Markstrom seems like he's ready to get some NHL action though. Would you rather have him split time with Stolarz in the AHL or get 15-20 games backing up Mason? |

Hey, if they're willing to give him that money, he'd be crazy to pass it up.
Edit: I get what you're saying though, it is a lot of cash for Bolland |

Pronger's injury was more of a fluke though. He suffered the concussion from taking a stick to the eye. It was a cumulative effect like Savard.
There really is no way to fix it. I was hoping they'd wipe the slate clean for both teams. It was fairly obvious that both players weren't faking. They were both still playing at a very high level prior to the injury. - PhillySportsGuy
Maybe they can find a way to have something like LTIR but a little different. Something like a Long Term Disability List. You can place a guy on there with a career ending injury. Has to go through all the LTIR protocal things and be medically not cleared. If placed on there then you get paid but the money doesn't count against the cap. Maybe you can only put so much money on this list and if over then have to use LTIR.

Because he plays for the Phantoms and was a UFA signing after a strong overage season. |

It could be used for circumvention though. You can't tell a player how badly he's hurt. Especially, with head injuries. Whats to stop Hossa from retiring at 40 and saying his head hurts and he can't play? |

Yeah. I didn't want to poop on your trade proposal, but I thought Straka+3rd was pretty low for a legit goalie prospect |

I agree and I'm not saying the Flyers are circumventing the cap at all. The intent of the rule was to prevent teams from signing veterans for term longer than reasonable given their age. So it wasn't the case with Pronger/Savard, but their teams are still dealing with the liability....how does the league free the teams without setting the precedent that moving an older player to LTIR can be used to avoid the intended rule?
Medical opinion is not something that rules handle well. - magmoo
The intent of the LTIR rule was not to prevent teams from signing veterans for term longer then reasonable given their age. That is the 35+ rule. A team has to document the injury medically to obtain LTIR status for a player. |

Well, he was 7th on the team in scoring (4th in Pts/GP) as an AHL rookie. I suggest you read up more on our farm system if that's the case. |
