maybe i just dont get it and am dumb but why would the stanley cup champs trade their playoff MVP or their captain for a D man with 1 year left on his deal in his 30s?

That would be my hopeful wish... Kuli and his agent agreed to let the Pens hold off on announcing the deal just so they won't have to deal from a weaker position from other players.
If that is the case, that is REALLY a smart move and class act from the Kuli camp.

I would as well but i don't think they will. If I'm not mistaken the year they won their first cup he was believed to be trade able because he was struggling (at least national media made it seem that way). Then he went out and had a stellar playoffs and won them a cup

Think they are just gonna shop him around first... they can always sign who they want and go over the cap just a bit knowing Skuds can be bought out a day later.
