He would be in demand. Penguins would get something nice in return. - Ryan_Wilson
Your probably right, i just don't see a team giving up a young, former 1st round pick with loads of potential (Etem, Granuland) for 1 year of a veteran D-man. |

Mediocre defensemen get traded for hauls every deadline. Somebody will pony up. |

That's fine if you sign Ehrhoff. |

I personally think downie could be a decent 3rd line pick up. His stock has seemed to drop and with the pens new system, he could do well |

Do you trade him then for Alex Tuch and some picks next year? Clears up $5mil for him, get rid of Scuds some how thats another $3.5mil and maybe somehow get rid of Fleury another $5mil. I know perfect world that sounds great and we'd have to take back some on Scuds. But you go sign Hiller between $3-$4mil, Enroff to $4mill you've added cash to bring in a few other players |

All Bouwmeester got was a first round pick and two mediocre prospects. And that was with more than a year left on his deal. Martin's max value is probably a second rounder and a b-level prospect. Less if he won't waive his NTC for certain teams, and even less if it's this summer and Pittsburgh HAS to trade him for cap reasons.
Do you have any examples of mediocre defensemen you think teams got hauls for, that are in a comparable situation to Martin contract & age wise? |

I don't see a high level prospect coming back. Probably a mid level prospect and a 2nd round pick. |

I would Settle for B.Pouliot/Kulemin/Goc (all three) and the Ehrhoff idea with Paul Martin bringing a pick/2nd-3rd liner. |

I don't see Martin returning a young, up and coming forward. Honestly, i don't know what the return for Martin would be, but don't think it will be high. His value is higher for the Pens then anywhere else. - cap1681
Martin if healthy at the deadline, will net us a bigger return. At least 2 2nd round picks..maybe more. |

Santorelli put up a lot of his points in the top 6 playing with the Sedim and Kesler line.. Tortorella line juggling, etc...
Would you give away Paul Martin for free if the other team took Rob Scuderi as well?
It would be like trading Martin for 8.3 million in cap space... |

Like I said earlier. If...BIG IF...they can get Ehrhoff for the same money, I trade Martin to the Ducks for Thompson and a 2nd. I know I got taken to task for that deal, but I think it works for the Pens. |

1). If healthy is a big if
2) If he is here for most of the season, why trade him at the deadline for picks? Trading him then makes the team worse. He has more value in a playoff run to the Pens then what he would return in a trade. A trade only makes sense if they can find a replacement in FA. |

Douglas Murray for two 2nd round picks? - Orpik44
Murray trade only guaranteed one second round pick, the other was conditional on him re-signing or team going past second round. I think that's about what most here are saying about where Martin's max worth would be. Second round pick and a b-level prospect OR conditional draft pick. Doesn't seem like much for a guy who, when he played, was in the top 2 for you in ES, PP, and PK TOI. |

I'm all for Michalek but not for Hemsky. For that money the Pens have a better shot at Matt Moulson. Moulson is a proven goal scorer. Hemsky isn't. Moulson had 4 consecutive 30+ goal seasons on Long Island. Hemsky has yet to crack that mark and they are both 30 years old. If the Pens sign Moulson, Michalek, and Kulemin the lines would be:
Moulson Crosby Hornqvist
Kulemin Malkin Michalek
Kunitz Sutter Dupuis (HUGE UPGRADE TO THIS LINE)
Megna Spaling Bennett
I'd also trade Scuderi now and then Martin at the deadline. Martin is opting to be a free agent next off season. Trade him at the deadline for something. As for Scuderi, fine any way to dump that deal and truly go for youth on the backend. The Pens should be fine.
Matin Letang
Dumoulin Despres
Harrington Bortuzzo
Maatta Pouliot (until they heal)
Samuelsson
This roster would look a heck of a lot better this way. |

Did you turn the Salary Cap off???
Edit: I just put this roster into Capgeek, and with friendly deals for all the FAs, the Pens would be 4M+ over the cap. |

To chime in on the Martin trade talk, if they move him it should be now, we will probably be in a race come the deadline and he will be too valuable to give up at that point |

Also, Corey Conacher did not get qualified, could be a good low cost option as a 3rd line LW |

I'll take the Cup with Martin over trading him for peanuts. His value will not be returned right now. |
