So, which two of Reilly Smith, Fraska (sp?), the big tall Dman who's last name starts with an "O" or Alex Chiasson are gone? - Oneonta Penguin

Stars trade Alex Chiasson, Nick Paul, Alex Guptill and 2nd pick in 2015 for Jason Spezza and Ludvig Karlsson.
Not a ton given up by Dallas. No leverage for Ottawa. |

Not completely true. They were looking for bargain bin priced players in return because Melnyk is a cheapskate. If they wanted to make a good hockey trade they could have. |

He didn't do bad though, Chiasson has the look of a top 6 contributer, 2 OK prospects and a 2nd round pick in a very good draft... could have done a lot worse (i.e. Kesler trade) |

Kesler trade was better, no question. |

Chiasson plus prospects and picks... Smith is already on Boston, traded there last year in the Seguin deal - kfinl170
Brain fart on the Reilly Smith post. I know that, just forgot. He is a RFA

Dallas is starting to have the look of a team that could do some damage. Not an LA/CHI style powerhouse, but I could see them becoming like the Blues. - Rawdog9755
Yeah, it's going to be a war to get out of the West every year for the next few years. |

Do you think teams low ball Hiller and bring up the fact that he got replaced by rookies in order to get him to sign cheaper? It's a crappy move but if I'm going to trade away a starter to sign Hiller (Fleury), I'm going to do it for as cheap as possible. $3.5mil - gershall13
I only move MAF if I know I can get Hiller for 3. And if someone will take MAF for 1 yr at 5, someone else will pay HIller multipler years at 5. I don't think there is a move to be made in net. |

Dallas will be rolling two strong lines next season. If they manage to pick up a rock on the blueline they could be a competitor next season in the playoffs.
Paul Martin's name is coming up a lot today and not just from Gunner being retweeted, so I bet he gets moved. |

We still considering Reimer as a chance for a goalie if we could trade out Fleury? Havn't heard him mentioned in a couple blogs.
He apparently wanted out... and we could just give the middle finger to Fleury >_>

For a win now impact on the roster yes, it just depends on what they were looking to accomplish and if it is a trade for futures then they succeeded |

Yeah and he is a really nice player, wouldn't mind an offer sheet towards him with the lack of cap space in Boston |

This is true too... With the cap this season, this is a great summer for low cap teams to get instantly better. Not many teams can take on high price UFA's, and ones that do will be looking to dump other high salary players for low return. |

Fair enough, I mentioned this just before but what are your thoughts on potentially offer-sheeting Reilly Smith... Boston is cap strapped so it may be tough for them to match |

Only way he's moved is if Erhoff is signed. Don't see them trading him away without someone to replace him. |

Penguins don't have a 3rd round pick next year so it would have to be in the $1,682,195 to $3,364,391 range. That would cost Penguins a 2nd round pick. |

Sorry to tell you but if you watch this team on a regular basis you know that MAF is not one of our most glaring problems, 2 bad playoffs he sure as hell did; but other than that he is not to blame for our shortcomings. - nbartley9
He is not the total blame but he is a big part of the problem. Goalies that can't win tough big games are not going to take you to a stanley cup. Like MAF they can be part of a winning team as he was in 2009 but hardly the reason for winning. If you watch hockey other than the Pens you begin to realize what a problem "Creampuff" as he is known in the Vegas sportsbook really is! Just a very mentally weak average goalie.

I'm not sure its in the cards, but I'd rather have a young guy like Smith that you can get for basically cheap; instead of paying 4.5 for someone with warts. A second round pick would be worth getting a young kid that is somewhat established knowing that the second round pick needs at least three years to develop. |

Reilly Smith scares me a little bit... He had a very good year, but he scored 2 goals in his last 30 reg season games. He did have a few in the playoffs though, but I just get scared of overpaying a guy based on one season or parts of one season (see Ryan Johansen). |

Brodeur should be a bigger no than the other ones.
Price is the deciding factor for Cammy for me. No on Downie. |
