So DelZotto, a player the Sens enquired about this last season, is now a UFA. Interesting

Can't see any scenario of the Sens landing Nicushkin. I can see a conditional 1st if Spezza resigns.

Anyone else think the a Rangers have been eerily quiet.....

- Cup 06

They have no $. They have alot of RFA's to re-sign which will eat up most of the cap space they have. Stralman and Boyle are definitely going to walk and Moore will most likely as well. They will either use young in-house replacements or bargain hunt for vets after the FA rush calms down

Hjalmarsson/Sharp for Spezza/Methot would ya?

Gives the Hawks some flexibility for next year(Kane/Toews). Sens get some champion vets.

Equal money in/out.

Sharp-Zbad-Ryan
Mac-Turris-Stone
Hoffman-Smith-Condra
Greening-Pageau-Neil

Hjarl-EK
Cowen-Gryba
Phillips-Ceci
Boro-Wiercioch
Thoughts?

Since the $ is equal why would Hawks do this?

might not be equal after next year though. spezza could take a cap friendly contract, or not be re-signed.

l dont think hawks do it either way

i love fans of teams who just got reamed in a trade who come in here and say "well just cuz our GM was an idiot and got ripped off, you guys are screwed"
- sensarmy_11

I've said this a few times in other Sens threads. The reasons teams aren't offering the world for Spezza are mainly due to his contract situation. Besides the limiting factor of his NTC, he basically amounts to a 1 year rental. He's already come out and said he won't negotiate an extension before a trade which only adds to the rental factor. Any team that trades for him has to assume that for him to not be a rental they are going to pay free agency prices before next offseason to keep him around which leads to my next point regarding current free agents. Why would teams pay huge assets for a 1 year rental whose cap hit is high when they can just sign a free agent with no assets given up?

Realistically until Stastny and others find homes no team will pony up for Spezza and even then given the marketplace I doubt the return for Spezza will come close to what you guys expect

Since he won't talk to anyone about an extension noone knows regarding his future status.

Hjalmarrson is one of their most cap friendly contracts they have, and with them needing to re-sign Toew's and Kane they need to keep as many of these types as possible to avoid the step back in talent if/when they have to offload other high salaries like Sharp

Finally have a 2nd line center, Methot similar to Hjalmarsson.

Two players they're getting are off the books next year, players they're trading away have long term deals. Trying to sign Kane and Toews long term.

Not a terrible deal for the Hawks at all, actually. I would want some picks or a decent prospect if I'm CHI, but that's not a bad start to a deal at all. It makes a lot of sense.

I'm afraid we will all have to keep waiting. Why would teams pull a trade for Spezza when they can sign a free agent for nothing (in terms of giving up assets) after July 1. After the bulk of centres are signed, there may be a team or two left that is still looking to improve in that position.

But for any team that acquires Spezza they have to assume he amounts to a 1 year rental. I get that he fills that need for them but Hjalmarsson is a BIG price to pay for a 1 year rental C

methot isnt much of a downgade from hjalmarsson.....so its not a huge risk. and you have fo think adding spezza makes them the favorites (along with LA) in the west......more so then they would have been

Which is why I said I think Ottawa has to include a pick and/or prospect.

Assuming Methot is close to Hjal, this would amount to Methot and 1 year of Spezza for Hjal and Sharp. Understood regarding their need for a #2C, but if Bowman suddenly turns crazy I hope he calls Yzerman first

Honestly speaking, and I know you guys wouldn't do this. But IMO you would have to give Hawks your 2015 1st to make this happen. Hjal is probably their most valuable piece on D given his valuation on the cap vs what he brings on the ice and you can bet the NHL recognizes just how valuable he is as well

i personally dont think the deal makes sense for ottawa eigher. they want to move spezza chz be's aging and expensive, and they're rebuilding.....doesn't make sense to bring in an older and more expensive player in sharp.

if a deal happens with ottawa, i imagine it involves young players and prospects, and maybe sens eating salary and cap

considering where sens might finish next year (even with sharp and hjal) i wouldnt trade that pick straight up for both of them.....unless it was conditional and lottery protected

I agree. A conditional 2nd that becomes a 1st if Spezza resigns would be fair.

Unless the Sens turned around and flipped Sharp to someone else (maybe even a team in the West).

5 free agents I think OTT will look at: Moulson (MIN), Havlat (SJS), Pouliot (NYR), Jokinen (PIT) and keeping Milan Michalek. #Sens

I am not sure Dallas would trade Nichushkin but man if they traded him for Spezza we would be laughing...

I'd trade Spezza (50% retained) + Prince + 2015 2nd for Nicushkin and we'd still be stealing him

- riceroni

Yeah, have to agree. There is really nothing I can see that makes Dallas part with Nichushkin.

Benoit (frank)ing Pouliot is such a plug. Super lazy player who takes terrible penalties....Sweet jesus do I need to sacrifice a goat for something good to happen this offseason
