Interesting take. Totally inaccurate as far as Montreal goes, but that's your usual nonsense. The Leafs definitely got weaker - an amazing feat, by an awesome GM!!!

Montreal got better defensively and bigger up front.

They have a little less scoring, but they have plenty of cap space so they could make some moves in order to help that.

I don't think any Canadian team had a strong day yesterday.
Jets are going to get destroyed in their division now.
Calgary and Edmonton....well....
Montreal in Toronto both probably got a little weaker.
Vancouver? Not sure the reasoning behind Miller. I guess maybe they are stronger.

None of Lack or Markstrom can carry the load. Markstrom is a great prospect that didn't pan out and Lack will never be nothing more than a back-up. Not a great signing but they definetly needed a starter.

They got rid of Gorges.
- Pecafan Fan

and replaced him with Gilbert.

Come on. That is not an improvement.

Well what you said makes no sense. How did they get weaker? By trading Gorges? By losing Gionta? What move made them weaker?

They signed Gilbert AND Weaver resigned for a bit more than what Gorges makes.

By replacing Gorges and Gionta with Gilbert and Malholtra.

If you think that is an improvement then I'm ok with that. I don't.

The only thing Gorges was good at, is laying on the ice and block shots.
When he touched the puck, the play went dead.

Gilbert can move the puck and it'll allow Emelin to play on his side.

Weaver was already there.

If I said that Gilbert was better than Gorges 3 months ago I would have been banned for a month.

Malhotra didn't replace Gionta. As far as Gilbert goes, he brings a lot more to the table offensively, insofar as moving the puck.

I think bergeFAIL made decent moves all around...and I think he's counting on big strides by Galchenyuk and Gallagher.

Bournival should be a bit better too...hopefully chip in some 30+ points.

Not sure what the plan is with Eller/Plekanec...but if Eller is going to be preferred to Plekanec, they better hope he finds a way to be consistent (I think this is the one step forward which may not materialize...we've been waiting for it for too long...).

Malholtra centring the 4th line is an upgrade...

Weaver was NOT already there. He was a UFA.

I didn't say Gilbert was better than Gorges on his own. It was the combination of the cap savings.

Malhotra will replace Ryan White, and Gilbert will be able to help with the transition game, and on the second powerplay wave...not ideal but way better than having Gorges there.

WTF Benoit Pouliot???

That was the dumb signing of the day, imho.

I'll see your Pouliot and raise you an Orpik.

My point wasn't really about the money, more than what he'll bring to the Oilers.

AT LEAST, Orpik fills a need for the Caps.

Still, they need a number one goalie and choose the best available. I prefer Miller at 6 than Hiller at 4,5.

Oh sorry my bad.

So Weaver and Gilbert replace Gorges and Weaver.
