I know why he mentioned Price. Because Price is the biggest leader on the team, and the team has the most respect for him. And if the team votes on it, he won't be discounted unless he explicitly asks to be.
And... Don't compare Price with Luongo. They're completely different from each other. - EricEngels

It's really hard for a goalie to come out and say we have to play better without throwing his teammates under the bus. Many times Lu just said captain cliches and got called out for it, because he's a goalie calling out the skating, effort, etc.
How many times can a goalie come out and just say I have to make that extra save? Also, it's a distraction which is exactly the thing a goalie doesn't need. |

So it should be some sort of paternalistic decision from management?
I think this might be one of the problems in sports today...the constant babying of athletes...wouldn't want to ruffle anyone's feathers...so what if that star player management really likes is not everyone's favorite on the team? it's better that he find out in a player only vote and figure out what he needs to do to fit in then to be handed the captaincy and forced in a leadership role when others don't fully respect him.
Did Phaneuf get named captain by management? or voted by the player? (serious question). |

Didn't see much of him this year...so I would be wary that at his age, he's got nothing left in the tank. but if he does, and lands in MTL, could be an interesting fit...
