Not a good way to kick-off the 200 years celebration. |

I don't even know why EE mentioned Price...we (and every other NHL team's management) saw how well that worked out for the canucks and Luongo...
Plus, a goalie (a star one at that) is already in some way a leader on his team...there's no need to name him captain... Price is part of any leadership group by default.
I also think Gallagher is too young to be named captain, and the style of play doesn't lend itself to being a captain...I'd say PK if he toned down some antics...Markov would be my first choice if he wanted it. Not sure about Plek as he might be moving too...but if the organization names him C, you have to figure it's because he's not moving... - number_23
I know why he mentioned Price. Because Price is the biggest leader on the team, and the team has the most respect for him. And if the team votes on it, he won't be discounted unless he explicitly asks to be.
And... Don't compare Price with Luongo. They're completely different from each other.

I don't think Players pick the captain. - stormeyweather
In a lot of places they vote on it. The players only.
Bergevin and Therrien are old school guys. The question remains, is this how they'd like it done? |

i don't think Plekanec. he's never even been named an assistant. Markov i don't think would want it because i don't see him wanting to deal with he media responsibilities. Price.. agree. goalies as captains is a stupid idea. Gallagher? come on. i don't see a ton of options really. Subban seems to be the best fit but is he ready for that? - DoubleDown

regardless, it's a stupid idea. Patrick Roy was the leader of the team too. |

you don't know that. the most obvious choice is Subban. but maybe they want to wait a year first and give him an A to wear. |

Doesn't matter that Luongo and Price are different...Luongo is not the one who turned it into a circus...it's the media around the team/NHL. I don't see how Price can prevent that from turning into a circus...
In no way do I question Price's leadership (now), and as I said, he's part of any leadership group this team has going forward. But naming him captain would just bring unwelcomed and unneeded distractions.

They used to do that all the time didn't they? That's how Chelios and Carbo tied so were co-captains. |

Yeah, I'll wait until they come out with the retro Gallagher t-short...make sure I have everything right...
- right number
- right role (captain or A???)
- right number of Stanley cup rings (5 or 6?...just threw that out there so stormey couldn't say 0...). |

I don't think most teams do it now.
Some maybe....but for the most part they are selected by management. |
