gaudy shot blocking numbers make Carlyle giddy.

Gunner best shot blocker on the team last year by a wide margin.

start with firing the coach.
- senstroll

OK, but what about the make up of the D. We just gonna go Gardiner/Rielly type guys, our are we allowed a couple of defensive defensmen, that are type, not particularily a joy to play against and can actually clear players from in front of the net so Bernier can see the puck. A defense made up solely of Gunnarsson's would be a (frank)ing disaster.

first year in recent leafs' history that there is no caphit for buyouts..!
of course, this had to be dealt with by management by at least retaining 200k on gunarsson's contract

Do you think LA, Chicago, NYR, or Boston have any big grity defensemen?
- walshyleafsfan

Do you think those teams play more than half the game in their own zone?

I'm kinda chuckling at the notion of sending Lupul the other way, I guess people here forget about secondary scoring or that Lupul is deadly on shootouts and you will need those points.

You better hope the 1st line never has a slump all year. Imo, bad swap of players suggestion.

- LeafMan

Yeah idk Lou. I wouldn't miss Lupul's 50-60 games a year. He's broken down. I'd take Moulson or Kane over him if we moved him.

What's funny is (when) Carlyle gets fired and they bring someone else with a different coaching system, they have to overturn the roster again to compensate for the new coach, it's a never ending cycle.

Gorges apparently nixed the trade.

I wouldn't be too worried if I'm a Leafs fan.

- Pecafan Fan

It is not that I think he is a bad player, but giving up your only secondary scoring option is not a good idea especially since the UFA market in that department sucks or a massive overpayment.

They don't..... All their guys are mobile and move the puck. We're trying to get slower guys who can't move the puck

Man I wish Nonis was as active as Yzerman.

He sees his needs and starts moving pieces to accommodate his game plan.

I guess Nonis needs a game plan first...

with a new coach we can see if in fact its the D makeup.
until then its cloudy imo..is it more the players or the system?

i am not sure yet... besides we have tried this over and over with Komasarek, obyrne, fraser, gleason.. now Polak ..all supposed to do what you say and all make the team worse

I hear you - the only thing RC likes more then a really good shot blocker is a physical banger. Carlyles' world = Polak > Gorgeous Gorges > Gunnar > Franson

I don't know why Leaf fans are so upset. Clearly the Leaf braintrust is working on implementing a foolproof master plan that will result in a dynasty not seen since the 1980's Oilers. They've laid all the necessary groundwork with their brilliant, original, and daring work at the draft this weekend. They started by adding another soft, undersized, defense-phobic, floater to their already impressive collection. Having sacrificed their own second round pick for another vital piece of the puzzle, MVPeter Holland, they used that time to plot the rest of their brilliant draft strategy. And they didnt disappoint-a Russian guy who was passed over in his first year of eligibility, 3 unknown Americans toiling in the USHL, and a bigger, slower version of their 1st pick. See you at the parade.

That's why they're looking at Gorges …..Ehrhoff, Niskanen, Stralman ….all more than that.
