I havent seen him play often no. But from what I have...he seems ok.
No I get what you are saying....Im mainly not a fan of the cap penalty.

- Fakepartofme

It's not that Polak is that good, it's that he brings something other Leafs dmen do not bring. Changes the mix a little. Good deal IMO.

Would have been more like Gleason and a 3rd for a 6th
Extra 3rd for the cap relief

- MTL1

Yup And stupid Nonis didn't think giving someone 3rd round for a 6th round to save $833,000 was fair

Dion is here to stay. NMC kicks in tmrow I believe so unless they trade him today he's staying. Gotta fit him into that six. I'm guessing franson comes back or is traded but who knows what nonis does. I feel like he's playing roulette with his decisions and just goes with where ever the ball may land.
- jps7878

Nah, Franson cant come back....we need someone else who can play D and take minutes away from Phaneuf.

Or any pick.
Buffalo needs to hit the cap floor.
Heck, could have traded him for 6th rounder......no sense adding penalties to our cap.

- Fakepartofme

Yzerman looks like a genius being able to just move contracts for late picks to free up space for later moves.

Why couldn't Nonis find anyone to take Gleason for a 7th?

Oh Fakey, Fakey, Fakey.

The reason he wasn't traded is because 29 other GMs laughed at the idea of taking him.

He stinks.

Nobody (not Buffalo, not the Islanders, nobody) will take a terrible guy just to get to the floor. You may be willing to take a mediocre guy (as long as you are paid handsomely to do so) but you won't take a crap guy who hurts your team.

Gleason hurts whatever team he plays for.

I'm just glad that's no longer the Leafs.

It was a good hockey trade: we wanted a right-handed shot and some grit at a reasonable cap hit, they wanted some mobility and a left hand shot with a reasonable cap hit. I don't like that we had to retain salary and give up a pick, but perhaps that's a bit of insurance for potential damaged goods in Gunnar if the hip surgery doesn't pan out.

SO what do all the people who thought Riemer would sit tight and just play behind Bernier think now that he's apparently requested a trade?

Are you talking about Phaneuf or gleasing?
Losing him is fine.....its the cap hit that could hinder us down the road.

- Aaron_85

I'm guessing that it's because Gleason absolutely sucks and is overpaid.

But here's the thingy - he's currently on waivers, meaning that any GM can have him without having to give up a 7th.

So if he's picked up, you were right.

If he clears waivers, Nonis was right.

See you in 23 hours.

I'm surprised he took this long to request one to be honest. I figured he'd be asking last fall when it became clear that, no matter how well he played, Bernier was going to get the starts.

I get the contract is a bit of an overpayment but if Scott Gomez was traded (for a really good return considering that contract). Phaneuf can be traded.
